June 22, 1947 - April 21, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce that Rudy died peacefully at home on April 21, 2025, with wife Debbie by his side after a short battle of cancer. Born in Venlo, Holland on June 22, 1947, his family moved to Victoria, B.C. in 1952.
Predeceased by mother Gertrude, dad Marten, granddaughter Lissy, and brother-in-law Keith. He leaves behind wife Debbie, his daughter Laura (Craig), granddaughter Kylie, son David (Stacy), siblings Elisabeth (Keith), Roely, John, Hank (Cheryl), Tiny, Wendy (Norm) and many nieces, nephews as well as many family members on Vancouver Island and in the Netherlands.
Rudy worked at McPherson/Royal Theatres as an usher, worked on a horse ranch, worked at a bank, had a Fish & Chip Shop and was a Victoria police officer from August 1, 1972 until January 29, 1999, as well as having a trophy business for a few years. Rudy remained friends with his former colleagues, as well as his schoolmates from St. Louis College.
Rudy belonged to and was treasurer of the Region 13 International Police Association as well as former President of Legion 127 for many years.
Rudy played golf for some years but enjoyed visiting with friends and sitting out on our back deck.
Thanks to all our families, friends and neighbors for all the love and support provided through this difficult journey. Thanks to Dr. Symon, Dr. Parimi, Dr. Lee, Dr. McCracken, Dr. Phillips, a special thank you to the Duncan Homecare, Palliative Doctors Masud, Dr. Adzich, as well as Palliative Nurses Madi and Lisa. Also, a special thank you to our friend John Yankoski.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 2 - 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Rudy's memory by spending time with loved ones or donations can be made to Cowichan Hospice House.
