Roger Barclay Obituary

Born in Victoria, BC. Roger was the oldest son of the late Guy and Adele Barclay. He is survived by his adopted son Andrew Daniel Barclay (Cindy) and their sons Samuel and Max of Victoria, BC. He will also be missed by his brother Patrick (Margaret) of Kimberley BC and their children Karen (Graeme) of Richmond BC and Stephen (Sandy) of North Vancouver BC.
Roger attended Willows Elementary, Glenlyon and Oak Bay High in Victoria.
Roger worked as a surveyor with the Water Rights Branch of the BC Government which later became part of the Ministry of Environment retiring from there in 1992. From 1992 to 1996 Roger was a full-time foster parent for troubled teenage boys. He continued to be involved with many of these boys (men) until he passed away and took great pleasure in regularly contacting them to check on how they and their families were doing and by supporting them in whatever way he could. In return, many of these men continued to check on Roger up to his final days.
In 1996 Roger retired from paying jobs to become a gentleman cabinet-maker, bike builder, BMX supporter, and a true caring friend to many.

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But Roger Barclay didn't have that problem."

Roger was more then just a caring person, he was a great role model for myself and many youth. I only hope was for him to meet my kids because without Roger I'm sure I wouldn't have any. I was on such a destructive path in life. Roger was the only one to take time to just be there and listen. If you can't tell already I'm one of the kids he helped even after I moved out. He was my only source for parenteral advice and he was great for it.

May you rest in peace and know you will always be missed.

I was the secretary for the Surveys Section, Water Management Branch. I loved all the surveyors, but Roger was one of my favourite people. He had a dry, quiet humor that made him a pleasure to work with. I am not surprised that Roger's life had such a positive impact on those around him.

A life well lived.

Roger was a a generous and caring man. He had a big impact and influence on many lives. Roger helped many kids in the neighborhood. He helped start the Hang Ten Skateboard Team, back in 1977, taught us how to build Skateboards, took many of us skiing, canoeing, taught a few of us how to drive in his old blue Cadillac. Roger was one of the most caring and understanding human being I have ever met. A great man. Many of us were so fortunate to have Roger Barclay in our lives. RIP Roger
