Ron Crabtree Obituary

CRABTREE, Ron John

Born June 1, 1952, and passed away June 2, 2023. He leaves his best friend and loving wife Barbara Duffield; siblings Judy (Alvin Bogoslowski) and Frank Crabtree; sister-in-law Patty Duffield; and nephews and nieces. Predeceased by siblings Fred Crabtree and Linda LaCroix.
Ron grew up in Ottawa, studied at University of Waterloo, and built a career in IT, working in Ottawa, Edmonton, Sydney, Toronto, Jakarta, Victoria, Kathmandu and Bahir Dar. A fun part of Ron and Barbara's life together was travelling and residing in many parts of the world, especially in Asia. There were many adventures, from canoeing down the Sepik River to trekking in Nepal. He was a gentle, patient and caring man who was devoted to Barbara. With many interests through his life, including running, paddling, hiking, bridge, cooking, singing, gardening, DIY handyman, and pulling invasive species, Ron was generous spirited and had many friends.
Ron was incredibly strong in dealing with his neuroendocrine cancer, from diagnosis in 2014 to his passing. Loved. Missed. At peace.

A friends gathering will be held later. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (cnets.ca).

I studied with Ron at York University in the 1980's and enjoyed our friendship very much. After graduating, I lost track of him but am pleased to learn that he lived such a full life. My condolences to Barbara and all of Ron's family. He was a good man.

My deepest sympathy to the Crabtree family.
I have pleasant memories of when Ron was a Dragonboat paddler and we all travelled to various parts of BC

Sorry to hear that Ron has passed. We were both students in the physics program at Waterloo, and towards the end of our program (in 1974) we took an enjoyable road trip in my car for a couple of weeks through Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, visiting Quebec City, Cape Breton Island, Peggy's Cove, Halifax and Yarmouth.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Ron. He was not only a fellow paddler but also an involved and enthusiastic man who embodied the spirit of our community. Ron's passion for the sport was evident, and his absence will be felt by all of us. Ron's positive energy and genuine love for exploring and understanding the world were always interesting. Ron's spirit and impact will continue to live on through the memories we shared and the joy he brought to our paddling adventures. All my best to Barbara and his family.

I only knew Ron from work at MOF in the 1990s, and from dragonboating, but his sense of humour and his gentle demeanor are memories that remain for me. I imagine you have seen his bravery.
Deepest sympathy to you, Barb, in your loss, and to the family.
