Ronald Norcliffe Burley (1932-2026)
Ronald Norcliffe Burley, 93, passed away in Nanaimo on February 17, 2026. A Vancouver-born adventurer, Ron was the heartbeat of Ucluelet starting in 1960 as the publican of the Ucluelet Lodge and later as a prominent realtor and Mayor. He was happiest at his self-designed log home in Germansen Landing, where he and his wife, Micheline (Miche), were known for their legendary northern hospitality.
Known affectionately as "Papa Ron", he leaves 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Micheline; children, Gretchen (Severino), Tom (Deanna), Stewart (Linda), Tim (Tracy), and Erin (James); and stepchildren Andy and Melinda. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen (1998); son, Daniel (2010); and daughter-in-law, Lori (2017).
Celebration of Life: Ucluelet Community Hall, 2 p.m. April 11, 2026. In lieu of flowers, crack a Lucky or raise a wee dram of Jameson's and share a story worthy of Ron.
