Ron Eison passed away peacefully at his home at Selkirk Seniors Village on Tuesday . Ron's children all spent time with him in the past few days, as well as spent time together reminiscing over the many family stories and events that made us a family. Until a few months ago Ron was still able to share memories of his childhood, beginning with his years at the Field Street Apartments with his parents, Henry Eison & Maude Bland. Ron attended Quadra, North Ward, Central Junior High and Vic High Schools. Ron loved sports, especially baseball, and loved telling the story of the time he and his friend Ray Brookbank tried out for the New York Yankees. Ron faithfully took his wife, children and Grannie Price to church and Sunday School at Parkdale Church, where for some time he taught the adult Bible class. In later years he and Lil attended Lambrick Park Church, and Ron volunteered his time doing carpentry and other repair projects for Wiseways Pre-school. Ron kept a diary of all of his woodworking projects - he enjoyed making toys such as yo-yos, tops and airplanes, plus small jewellery boxes, mallets and other gizmos (nearly 4,000 at last count). Ron & Lil were honourable grandparents to their grandson Robert's class at Esquimalt, and Ron used the assembly-line method to prepare all sorts of wooden projects ready for the students to finish putting together. Ron & Lil were foster parents for 25 years; Ron was always very good at cuddling the babies and, at times, counselling young parents. Ron enjoyed many years with his Vic High coffee club friends - Bob Clarke, Ray Brookbank, Tegid Jones, Laurie Smith & Jim Viger - and Ron persuaded most of them to take part in his comedic plays that he liked to perform at Vic High reunion luncheons. Ron is survived by his children Barb (Garry) Bentham, Dawn Gilmour (Dave Aspinall), Rick (Kim) Eison, Russ (Bonny) Eison and Rob; also grandchildren Nick, Josh, Ash, Mike, Chris, Katie, Kimberly, Robert and Derek, their spouses and their children. Lil, Ron's loving wife of nearly 58 years, passed away in 2009; Ron was also pre-deceased by his infant grandson and baby Kaelyn, his great-granddaughter. Ron's family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Selkirk Seniors Village for their kindness and caring attention to him these past few years. In lieu of flowers, Ron's children ask that you consider a donation to Ron's favourite charity, Easter Seals - Camp Shawnigan
