Ronald Lawson Obituary

LAWSON, Ronald Dale Passed away July 25, 2008 with his loving wife, Boni of 23 years at his side. Born February 23, 1946 in Duncan, BC and raised in Victoria, BC, Ron had a life long love of the ocean. In his early years Ron spent a lot of time with his brothers on Mesachie Lake, and with his mom, stepfather and dog, Chico, on the Sinaway taking trips up the West Coast. In his later years, Ron could usually be found happily roaming Dallas Road, sharing his wit, charm and warm smile with everyone he met. In fact, it was Ron's love of the water that would lead to a life altering diving accident when he was 20. Despite this setback, Ron found the courage and strength to overcome the odds and went on to have a fulfilling and successful life, working for the Ministry of Finance for over 17 years. Ron will be deeply missed. Ron is survived by his wife, Boni; daughter, Pamela (Jason); brothers, Bud (Doreen), Cliff (Birdie), Bill (Irene) and Reg; sisters, Evelyn and Patti Jo (Leo); sisters-in-law, Sue and Alma, as well as ex-wife and close friend, Darlene. Ron also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and friends who were loved dearly. Ron was predeceased by his brothers, Rick and Bob; sister, Ruby; his mother, Phyllis; his father, Gordon and his stepfather, Pat. Ron wanted to say a special thank you to his brothers, Bud and Cliff, for being his role models; his brother, Bill, for his sense of humour and his brother, Reg, for his support and unique mind, with thanks to Doreen, Irene and Birdie for loving them all these years. The family would like to thank Pat, Sylvie, Sally, Bev and Katherine, and would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. and Mrs. Beeston, Jill and Ron's second family on 2 West at RJH. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Ron's memory to the Kinsmen Club of Victoria, 680 Sumas St, Attn. Scott Wood. Without them, Ron would not have been afforded his independence and quality of life in his final years. A graveside service will be held at Hatley Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 31 at 11:00 am. A reception at the family home will follow at 101-450 Dallas Road in Victoria from 1 7 pm. 488116

Hi Uncle Ron,
I hope you enjoyed the drink last night, I'm usually not a Rye drinker but man did it taste good!!

I miss you so much. I even picked up the phone to call you last week when the race was on. Its just not the same without talking your ear off for the full 4 hours of the race.

You have been gone only a month and yet it feels like forever. I miss you with each passing minute. You will always live in my heart and in the wonderful memories of the life we shared. I miss your mischieveous smile, your big brown eyes but most of all I miss the way you made me feel safe, loved and secure in your arms. RIP Ron. I love you. Boni

You were one of the few people in my life who I felt so comfortable talking to. You just had a way about you that is so rare in today's world. I will always remember our girls' lunches (you were one of the girls, weren't you?); Wally and I driving by in our annual carriage ride by your's and Boni's window and shouting back and forth. Wally and I will miss the lots of laughs we had together over the years. Love, Chester

Hey Ron, I'm sorry I didn't get to sing "Wild thing." as promissed, I did however sing it one time in private not twice as I was told. You were an incredible person who lit up a room with your wit and a smile. I'm sure your siilloette on Dallas rd. will be seen for years to come by the tennants of Sea-View and all the friends you made on Dallas Rd. I've really missed ya bud, Kev

Hey Ron - Thank-you for allowing me to attend your final gathering, albeit your funeral...I can just imagine Mom having some snacks and a drink for you at the bar...Rick may be there already waiting for a game of pool or maybe a curise in his old 59 Ranchero. Or maybe you and Dad can take a cruise on the Sinaway...Have a good time up there I know you will have all the ladies giggling in no time!

What great memories we have of all the times around the kitchen bar on Phelps Rd in Langford with Ron, Reg, their Mom and Pat. Who could forget all the fun we had with Ron, and Reg teasing their little sister PJ and all her girlfriends!

Family, friends and good times ~ what life is all about.

Thanks Ron for all the fun! RIP

A ladies man
A man's man
A genuine gentleman
Hey Ron
The stand up guy
You showed the way
The brave face
That great heart
Acceptance of fate
Everyday
Your wit
Your wisdom
Your certain
"je ne sais quoi"
and of course
Your charm
That wonderful charm
To have known such a man
is a blessing
Thus we have been blessed
Certainly
Thank You
