Dear Alton, Jay and Doug
Just hearing of this now. I was surprised! I thought Anne would live till at least 100! It is always a shock to lose a parent no matter how old and sick. Sending you best wishes.

I knew Anne for many years through my work at UVic. Part of my job included planning and delivering educational tours for the community. Anne accompanied many of our tours as the on-site coordinator, almost exclusively with Dr. Michael Booth as the academic resource. She was extremely competent in this role (and yes, a little bit bossy!). I knew that our participants were in good hands with Anne at the helm.
I hadn't seen Anne in several years, but I was very sad to read of her passing.

I had the pleasure of being Annes housekeeper and companion in her last years of life.
Anne always had a smile on her face and shared many conversations.
I will hold my memories close to my heart as will Shanon ( her other house mouse).
Lots of love to Alton,Jay and son Douglas

Anne was my dear cousin & I will miss her. Our last visit was June 2022 when I travelled from Kingston ON & met relatives for lunch at the Oak Bay Marina. Sending lots of love and sympathy to Alton, Douglas, and Jay and to others who loved and miss Anne.

Anne was a delightful travel companion to various parts of the world as she shared with me in many of the UVic Travel Study programs. Her positive outlook was one of her many endearing qualities that made my job easier. Jeneen and I send our sincere condolences to the family.

Hi Mavis and Barb. My name is Douglas McLaughlin, and with my wife Laura, are reading my mom's obituary on a Monday holiday morning on the town square in Chiclayo, Peru. It's warm and sunny, Mom would approve
SJ Willis and UVIC played major parts in our understanding of my parents. Education and physical fitness were themes. I always liked when my dad or mom introduced me to former students, knowing they had influenced others through school and contributed to the community. We will miss mom!
Thank you.

Anne McLaughlin was an incredible influence on the trajectory of my life. As a younger First Nations woman I enrolled in UVIC in 1974. I first enrolled in Education and she took me under her wing to make sure I knew how to register and what courses I needed. For many years I would be able to visit with her in her little office and get advice and she supported my change from Education into Child and Youth Care. She was so generous with her time and encouragement. I know that she helped me because there were times when I was scared to navigate a challenge, she would sit down and help me understand and walk me through my fear of failing and my feelings that I did not belong. She was so welcoming, motivating, and her smile kept me coming back. I know the family will miss her great presence and conversations.

Is this the Anne McLaughlin who taught P.E. and typing way back in the late 50's at S.J. Willis? If so I am so sorry for she was my favorite teacher of all time. I idolized her and wanted to be just like her and teach p.e. and typing. Needless to say, I spent my adult life in the school but in the office and was a school secretary for 35 years. I had the privilege of meeting up with her again when she would come into our school to supervise student teachers. What an outstanding wonderful person she was. I will truly miss her. A former student - Barb (Pudsey) Bos.
