Roy JOHNSON Obituary

Roy was born in Hardisty, Alberta and spent his early years on a farm near Alliance, where he learned the values of hard work and generosity that would define his life. He was the son of Eric and Florence Johnson.

After high school, Roy served in the Canadian Armed Forces, stationed in Winnipeg and Comox. He later continued his service as a civilian technician, working in Radar Technology for the Air Force at CFB Comox and Sonar Technology for the Navy at Nanoose Bay and CFB Esquimalt.

Roy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married Faye in 1961, and their partnership became the foundation of a life built on love, mutual respect and shared commitment to family. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home over 65 years of marriage.

Roy had a wide range of interests and was deeply committed to his community. He gave generously of his time as a baseball coach and umpire, hockey coach, school band president, longtime donor and proponent of Canadian Blood Services, long-service View Royal firefighter and member of the Westshore Lions Club. He spent countless hours supporting his children's pursuits in sports and music, always present and encouraging. An avid curler, Roy played for many years at the Esquimalt Curling Club. At home, he was a wonderful cook and dedicated gardener who took quiet pleasure in sharing his harvest with neighbours and friends.

Roy will be remembered for his steady presence and support, quiet generosity and deep commitment to family and community. He is survived by his wife Faye, his daughter Vicki, her husband Marcello and daughters Alison, Kristen and her fiancé Ben, Marisa and her wife Saskia and their daughter Lucy, his son Terry and wife Amanda and their sons Matthew and Ryan, and his son Brett and his wife Teresa, their daughter Elizabeth and her husband Dave and their daughter Josephine.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Wall, Dr. Yee, VIHA home supports and the medical staff at Victoria General Hospital, particularly Dr. Pearce and the nurses of 7B, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Canadian Blood Services.

To my Aunt Faye and all my cousins
I´m so sorry for your loss of your Husband and Dad. I´ll always have the best memories of him, how compassionate he was and such a gentle soul. He and my Dad were very similar and they were as close as 2 brothers could be. To know they´ll be together again, does my heart good

Condolences to Faye and all the family. Roy worked hard on projects at the former Anglican Church of All Saints in View Royal. He and Faye regularly attended the View Royal Roamers lunch club and I always enjoyed conversation.
