Ruth J. Simkin

March 18, 1944 - May 13, 2022

Ruth Simkin (of Winnipeg, Manitoba) passed away in her current home in Victoria, BC. Ruth's long-standing career as a physician began in family practice in Calgary, Alberta. Later in life, she became the first physician in BC to receive her fellowship in palliative care. Although healing and comfort were extraordinary talents of hers, she led a diverse and creative life of travel, women's activism and animal rights. She was a life long learner and curious about many things. As a second career Ruth became a prolific author and published 7 books. Ruth was a lover of life and lived hers to the fullest. Ruth is survived by countless family and friends and will be dearly missed. Donations in her memory, can be made to BC SPCA or Canadian Women's Foundation.
