Ruth WALLACE Obituary
Ruth Georgina Wallace (nee: Cope), 95, of Victoria B.C. passed away peacefully on November 19, 2022 with her granddaughters by her side.
Ruth was born on April 15, 1927 to Harold Cope and Elsie May Cope (nee: Miller) in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Ruth graduated from the North Toronto Collegiate Institute in 1945 where she was a proud member of the cheerleading team.
After marrying John Clifford Wallace on June 16, 1951, the couple went on to have three sons: twins Daniel John and Robert Allen, and youngest Gordon Clifford.
Ruth was a life-long sports enthusiast, and an avid curler and golfer right into her mid-80's. She was an active member of Canada's curling scene and volunteered many hours of her time to various curling events in Ontario. She was also a voracious reader, with a particular passion for mystery novels. She was known for leaving little reading notes in each book.
Ruth was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Jennifer, Erin, Monica, Amy, Michelle, Patrick, Daniel, Justin, Robert, and Kelly; as well as great-grandma to 11 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by them for her thoughtful and caring nature, and was famous for never missing a birthday card - even as her extended family members continued to multiply.
In her later years, Ruth fiercely maintained her independence, living in her own apartment and taking the bus to the grocery store in her 90's. She was the picture of dignity and grace, enjoyed a nice rum and coke in the evenings, and always wore bright red lipstick - right up to the day she passed.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband John, and sons Robert and Gordon. She is survived by son Daniel and daughters-in-law Nancy and Karen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Victoria Cool-Aid Society.
