Sandra MacPhee Obituary

MacPHEE, Sandra Kathryn
Sandra Kathryn MacPhee, longtime teacher in Victoria, horse-riding enthusiast, avid gardener and creative cook, died October 27, 2022 in Saanich at age 76.
Sandy is survived by Bill, her husband of 38 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill "Russ" McCusker and Gladys Elizabeth McCusker, and by her brother Keith.
Born in Vancouver, Sandy was a teenager when the family moved to Victoria. She attended Oak Bay High School and then UVic, where she graduated with a general arts degree and then her teacher's certificate.
She taught for 31 years in Greater Victoria District elementary schools, including Glanford, Burnside and James Bay.
Her talents at home ranged from fruit and vegetable gardening to raising baby beef and wild turkeys - and preparing meals that dinner guests eagerly anticipated.
Whether riding her horse, walking her large dogs or swimming, Sandy loved the outdoors. Annual trips with Bill to a quiet resort in Puerto Vallarta and their occasional visits to Prince Edward Island, Bill's home province, were among her favorite travel experiences.

Family will be gathering for a private remembrance.

I worked with Sandy for many years at James Bay Community School. We shared a love of gardening, dogs and cooking. I will make her Christmas fruit cake this year in her memory. I used to drive to her hobby farm to buy our turkeys from her and we enjoyed teas, garden walkabouts, and loved sitting beside her beautiful pool...chatting about her travels and home renovations. Sandy was a wonderful teacher, a great gardener and talented horsewoman, my sincere condolences to her husband Bill, whom she adored.
