Seymour Trieger Obituary

Seymour Trieger died Dec. 10, 2012 of complications of dementia. He was 88.

He was born in Newark, N.J., to Isidore and Sadie Wand Trieger. He married Margot Lowenthal in 1950. They divorced in 1967. He married Dorothy Clark, and moved with her to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1967.

He held a doctorate in education from New York's Columbia University, and taught in the US and Canada, including at Simon Fraser University. Seymour served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He later became a member of "Veterans for Peace", was active in the environmental movement, and led Canada's Green Party from 1984-'88.

He lived on Vancouver Island until 2004, when he moved to be cared for by family.

Survivors include his domestic partner of 32 years, Betty Nickerson of Courtenay, BC; a son, Andrew of Eugene, Oregon; two daughters, Donna Trieger and Laurie Trieger, both of Eugene; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene, Oregon. Remembrances may be sent to Veterans for Peace.
