Shakuntla Pallan Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our remarkable mother. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Nand Lal in 2013 and her youngest daughter, Tara, only four weeks ago in Toronto. She is survived by her sons, Rupee (Corol), Paul (Elka), her daughter, Santosh (Jim) her brothers, Gurcharn (Shashi) and Amar Singh in India. She also leaves behind her nine devoted grandchildren, Krishan (Maryellen), Jason, (Kriesha), Jalem (Vicki), Damon (Nicole), Anita, Tina, Rajan, Rani, Ranjeet (Rami) and her eight wonderful great-grandchildren, Aidan, Myles, Aaron, Samara, Kyla, Saraya, Shayden, and Indira. She also leaves behind her devoted brother-in-law, Mukand Lal Pallan (Tarsem) and many other relatives in our extended family.

Shakuntla was born, raised and married in India. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and two young sons via a boat after the war in 1947. Her two daughters were born in Canada shortly after. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker for her children and her extended family for many years. She loved cooking, gardening, doing embroidery and family gatherings. She made many friends and was actively involved in her Indian community. She was an amazing woman, had a heart of gold, a great sense of humour, a generous helpful hand and a beautiful soul. She was loved by all her who knew her and will be sorely missed. Her passing has left a huge hole in the hearts and lives of her family and friends.

A funeral service will held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, Falaise Drive, followed by cremation and a service at the Sikh Temple, Topaz Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would also like to thank Dr. Shultz and all of the wonderful staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital who provided such caring and professional support to our mother.

So sorry for your loss. The quality of your mother was reflected in her children. She also made the best samosas I've ever had.

Anita, Tina, Ranjeet, Rupee, Paul, Santosh and family

My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your grandmother & mother. Here is a poem that reminded me of your mother.

A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me".
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how truly I was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes, we are together again.

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

I am saddened to hear of your mother's passing. My mother left us this past year too and it is difficult to think about it at times. Mothers are all special and teach us many lessons in life. They are always near to our hearts and in our memories. With Sympathy Anna Clyburn

Dear Rupee, Paul, Santosh and family

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Mama Ji. She was a lovely woman with a big heart. I have very fond memories of her always greeting me with her warm smile and asking me how I was doing. She was a genuine and sincere woman who I respected very much.

The picture says at all as it shows that she loved life and her family who she was immensely proud of.

With Love

Ajmare and Catherine Sundher
