Sharanjit Johl Obituary

JOHL, Sharanjit Kaur August 20, 1934 - January 11, 2013 It is with sad hearts and deep sorrow that we have to say goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and good friend to many. Sharanjit Johl was born in the village of Ratainda, Punjab, India on August 20, 1934 and passed away on January 11, 2013 in her home surrounded by family. She is predeceased by her husband, Abtar Singh Johl, her parents Shiv Singh and Charan Kaur Gosal, and her granddaughter, Ahsha Kaur Sandhu. She is survived by her daughter Jaspal (Robindar) and her sons Satpal (Jackie) and Binder (Surinder) and her eight grandchildren: Jeevan, Rajan (Erin), Sarji (Randi), Serena, Shaina, Troy, Rauvin and Zamir. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Sardara (Kiranjit), sister-in-law Gurdev (late Harbhajan), sister-in-law Narnjan (Mohinder) and many loving nieces and nephews. After Sharanjit's education and marriage to Abtar, she immigrated to Canada in 1951. She cultivated many friendships across North America and the United Kingdom through her compassionate personality, generosity, religious faith and quiet nature. Her home was open to all, especially to those in need. This was clearly evident in the many stories shared with us by visitors to her home in the past few weeks. To our extended family, she was the "glue" that kept everyone together. She was affectionately known as "Niki" or "Bebe" by her nieces, nephews and grandchildren who were treated equally with love and respect. Sharanjit will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. Thank you to all of the special caregivers that helped our mother thru her final weeks and days and a special thanks to Manjit, who made her final days comfortable. Funeral services will be held at Riverside Funeral Home (Five Rivers), 7410 Hopcott Road, Delta, B.C. on Friday, January 18th at 1:00 p.m., followed by Bhog ceremony at the India Cultural Centre, 8600 No. 5 Road, Richmond, British Columbia. Donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency in lieu of flowers.
