Sharon Wetselaar Obituary
WETSELAAR, Sharon Caroline
(nee Eppler)
21 July, 1947 - 5 August, 2025
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Sharon after a long trial with osteoporosis and cancer.
Sharon was born in Kamloops where she grew up on the family farm while attending school and was actively involved in the local Lutheran Church. In 1964 she followed her parents to Victoria where she attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing and then on to the University of Victoria. In 1967, while working at the Public Library, she spotted her future husband of 54 years, Henri. She then completed her masters degree and graduated from UBC in 1974, launching for her a long and enjoyable career in various library systems. Her work included teaching Distance Education, managing corporate libraries and assisting in the library at St. Margaret's School. All the while raising four children and managing a busy household.
Those who entered into her house will attest to her cheerfulness, her fine cooking and baking skills. Her grandchildren could depend on her for mending and sewing along with always having a well stocked board games cupboard. She climbed, hiked, and kayaked, singing all the while. Instilling in others the importance of climbing that next ridge or seeing what is around the next bend in the trail. But also to take the time to stop and enjoy the view from the heights, and the stillness of the forest.
Sharon, mother, wife, poet and friend will be missed dearly. She is survived by her loving husband, four children and six grandchildren. A special thanks to all who came to her assistance, especially Dr. Ted Bachynsky.
