Silvia BURKINSHAW Obituary
On Saturday, December 24th, Silvia Margaret Jean Burkinshaw (nee Campbell) - beloved wife, mother and friend passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC. She was 85 years old. Silvia was born on April 1, 1937, to Sam and Margaret Campbell in Nanaimo, BC. After graduating from high school, she went on to study nursing at Vancouver General Hospital. And it was there that she met her future husband, Bryan, when she was caring for Bryan's father who was briefly in the hospital. Bryan's father spotted Silvia right away and suggested Bryan come by to meet her! And the rest is history - Bryan and Silvia were married on July 25, 1959, in Nanaimo. Their son Geoff was born two years later in 1961, followed by a second son Gregg in 1963.
Silvia was a fantastic cook who always made room for one more at her table. A gracious host and caring friend, many sought her company and counsel. She had a lifelong interest in health, nutrition, and physical activity. She logged thousands of miles walking and golfing with friends and was always ready to try a new and healthy recipe on her family. She loved music and travel. And she was also active in her community, raising funds and providing support to the March of Dimes and the Multiple Sclerosis Society, as well as singing in her church choir. A loving grandmother to Taylor, Anthony, and Kyla - a visit with 'Nana B' was the highlight of many a Sunday afternoon. We will all miss her greatly. Silvia was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her brother Norman Campbell, her husband Bryan, her two children Geoff (Jen) and Gregg (Tamara) and her three grandchildren, Taylor, Anthony, and Kyla.
Silvia's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Victoria for their care and support of Silvia over the past six years.
