I am saddened to hear about the news of the passing of Stan Emerick. I have fond memories of playing rugby with Stan JBAA, way back in the mid 60's . He was a great team member, a talented player and was always in a great mood. The world has been a better place because of Stan Emetic.

I got to know Stan from playing rugby against him over many years starting from juniors in 1962 through to 2nd div rugby. Being that I played for the Oak Bay Wanderers & Stan playing for JBAA was great rivalry! It wasn´t until I was 33 yrs old I found Stan and I are half brothers. To keep a long story short, Stan are related by having the same mother, Stan is from our mother´s 1st marriage & I from her 2nd marriage. Since Stan & I always enjoyed a couple of beers together after our matches & from that I felt a friendship towards each other over those playing years, it became a welcome surprise that Stanley was my half brother! Sadly I didn´t socialized with Stan outside of rugby, but we did get to know each more through his battle with Huntington disease. Stan found that disease with the same guts & courage the same way he played his rugby. For size he was fearless as a scum half. During his fight with Huntington, his wife Irene was such a trooper being there for Stan all the way through this difficult journey! Myself & brother Steve Hendry & sister Debbie Spargo who are also Stan´s half brother & half sister, absolutely admire Irene for her absolute devotion to Stanley during his difficult time! My deepest Condolences to Irene, Melissa and their families & friends! RIP Stan. Tom Walton

I remember 2 of his brothers and I riding our bikes all the way to his place off Metchosin road back in the day.
I spent a few years growing up on Queens Ave beside his siblings and parents, and would always would hear all the stories about Stan.
Later in life I worked for his Optometrist and would see him in the the office and we would have a chat.
I always admired him.
I'm sorry to his friends and family for your loss.

I played rugby with Stan in 1966 to 68. I was standoff and he was scrum half. I loved his enthusiasm and he fed me great passes. Those rugby years were a special moment in my life. Living in Ontario now, it is impossible for me to attend his celebration of life. I will be there in spirit and to the family please accept my condolences.
