Stefania and Ted immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Regina, Saskatchewan, where Stefania took great pleasure working at home to raise their family of five children. In 1988, Stefania and Ted retired to Saanichton, B.C. and enjoyed many activities including playing bridge, gardening, and visits with family and friends. Stefania's most cherished memories were with her growing family, feeding and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly called her "GGMA." In addition to gardening, Stefania very much enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and painting. She was an avid and ambitious artist, with flowers as her specialty.
Stefania was a proud veteran of WWII and was stationed in England where she served as a Leading Aircraft Woman (LACW), an enlisted rank in the Polish contingent of the Royal Air Force.
She was born in the district of Dubno, province of Wolyn, Poland in 1927 and was predeceased by her parents Helen Slusar in Poland and Frances Skoczek in Siberia, her sister Mary Okroj in Balgonie, Saskatchewan, and her brother William (Bill) Skoczek in Chicago, Illinois. Stefania was a courageous, strong, brave, and generous woman and her love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was her greatest gift.
Stefania's family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at Sidney All Care Residence, Sidney, B.C., for their dedicated care for the past 15 months, the paramedics, and the amazing staff at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital's Emergency and Palliative Care Units. At Stefania's request, there will not be a public service. A Private Family Reflection was held on July 26, 2024, at Sands Funeral Chapel, Victoria, B.C.
In Stefania's memory, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Saanich Peninsula Hospital, 2166 Mt. Newton Cross Road, Saanichton, B.C. V8M 2B2.
