Stella LOVETT Obituary

LOVETT, Stella Doreen (Midge) (nee Dobson) Stella was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1953, she met, fell in love with and married Eric ("the Duke") Lovett. They moved to Victoria in 1957 where they permanently settled down with their ever-growing young family. Nicknamed for her diminutive size, Midge may have been small but she was feisty and certainly not to be underestimated. She was, to those who knew her, larger than life - a true character - and she embraced life and everything in it full-on and with boundless energy, enthusiasm, optimism, and curiosity. She had an endless supply of often hilarious one-liners, coined "Midgisms", like "well aren't you an encyclopedia of misinformation". She never took herself too seriously, was the first one to laugh at herself and was a fearless and fierce advocate for her children and grandchildren when needed. Midge was a voracious reader on a wide-range of subjects as well as an avid cross-word fan and bridge player. She enjoyed a number of sports activities over the years including badminton, tennis, skiing, and golf. Midge developed numerous life-long friendships and generously hosted endless events for both family and friends. She organized legendary birthday parties for her children, putting much time and effort into making them fun and memorable. Over her lifetime, Midge gave freely of her time to organizations including the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Santa's Anonymous, and the Victoria Dixieland Jazz Festival. Midge and Eric travelled extensively all over the world and she never stopped planning their next most excellent adventure. Summers were always spent blissfully at Qualicum Beach, which was Midge's favourite place to be in the world. Midge lived her life fully and she lived it big. She will be remembered for so many things including her wicked sense of humour, her generosity, kindness, enthusiasm and indomitable spirit, her apple pie, and her deep love of her family. Midge recently said aptly that the best part of life was just being there. In more recent years, Midge faced her many disabling health challenges with strength, courage and without complaint. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after her last visit with her "hon". Predeceased by her first son Ricky and her brother Joe, Midge/Mom/Nana will be sorely missed by her loving husband of 69 years, Eric, children Debbie, Kathy (Bren), Lindy (Jason), and Doug (Stephanie), grandchildren Chris (Alanna), Kelly, Ella, and Tessa, her constant four-legged companion Cooper, as well as extended family and friends. The family is grateful for the kindness, care and support provided to Midge by Erna, Luise and Nora. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
