Susan Laubenstein Obituary

Dr. Susan Laubenstein 1947-2024

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Susan Laubenstein on Feb 11, 2024. Susan was born August 20, 1947 in Edmonton, AB and raised in Victoria, BC. She attended Victoria High School, as did her mother and three uncles, and graduated in 1965. She received her BSc from the University of Victoria and received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of British Columbia. She practiced medicine in Nova Scotia (Family Practice Residency), New Brunswick, Williams Lake, BC and Metro Vancouver. She truly loved the profession of Family Medicine and was dedicated to her patients.
She is survived, and remembered with love, by her brother, Glen (Rene). She was the best Auntie for Sarah (Kirk and their children Zach and Ollie), and David (Velvette). She was an Auntie that they could talk to about anything and she always made them feel loved and cherished. We are very grateful to Susan's friend Katherine, a steadfast and deeply caring friend of so many years. She knew she could depend on you and that you would always support her. To cousins Ron and Alice and their daughters Ellen (Peikang and their children Anya, Ramon, Raissa and Rayhart) and Vida (Tim and their children Anjali, Maia and Isla), you shared a very special and remarkable bond with Susan and her visits with you were precious to her. To Ron and Lila, you've always been there, forever friends, sharing your sensible advice combined with joy and laughter - what a gift. To all of her colleagues and friends, you added so very much to her life and we thank you.
Susan was predeceased by her loving parents, George and Cathy Laubenstein, by Ron and Alice's son, David, and by many uncles and aunts.
A memorial service is planned for August 17, 2024 (1:30pm) at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey. BC.

I was a patient of Dr. Laubenstein's for many, many years. She was an amazing and talented doctor and helped me and my children lead healthier and happier lives. She cared so much for people and gave so much of herself in trying to help others. I cannot fully explain the great positive impact she had on our lives. My family and myself deeply miss her guidance and comforting words.

Susan was a student in my English class in 1965-66, in my very first year as a professor at UVic. I remember her well, partly because of her unusual surname and because she was a lively and welcome contributor to the many class discussions we had. I am pleased to learn here in her obituary that she had such a fulfilling life. May she rest in peace.

I remember Susan well from my days practicing Family Medicine in Vancouver. She will be sadly missed by all her colleagues and patients. Condolences to the family and close friends.

My deepest condolences to Susan's family and friends. Susan and I were in the same classroom throughout our elementary years at George Jay School and, later, at S.J.Willis. We rode our bikes to S. J. Willis (not caring that it wasn't the coolest thing to do), spent many lunchtimes reading in the library, and often talked about our future plans: she wanted to be a doctor; I wanted to be a writer. We lost touch once we were at Vic High, given our different courses, but she was a good friend for many years.

My deepest condolences to Susan's family. Susan was a classmate of mine when we both attended George Jay School in the 1950s. It would seem that both Susan and I attended U.B.C. at about the same time. I became a lawyer, while Susan became a physician. IN PACE REQUIESCAT. Vic Simeoni
