Taaffe Family,
My deepest condolensces to you all. Even though I only knew Courtenay for a short time, she touched me in so many ways with her enthusiasm for life, her caring nature toward students, her vivacious personality and her love for her family and friends. I too like many others, will never forget all that Courtenay brought into her relations. I will truely miss her as a colleague and dear friend. You are always in my thoughts!

Mike and Dianne:
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Courtney. I remember Mr. Taaffe telling stories about his daughter during class, and how his eyes used to light up when he spoke of her. May you remember her with love and pride.

What an incredible loss. I remember Courtenay from highschool; the energetic redhead with a vibrant smile. My deepest sympathies to the Taaffe family, her friends and all the people she touched through her passionate love of rugby and teaching.
You will all be in my thoughts.

I met Courtenay a handful of times from our friend Carla. She was the bright light in the room--I always enjoyed the laughs we shared when I came out to visit; never a dull moment! Carla was an outstanding friend to Courtenay throughout the years and right until the last moment of her life. Courtenay will be missed.

Although i only knew Taaffe for a short time, as the coach for our U17 regional rugby team, i enjoyed every moment i spent with her and our team. Over the course of a month, our team worked towards the 2004 BC Summer Games. Courtenay brought knowledge and passion to every practice, as well as a huge smile! She made us work hard, work as a team, and as a result i developed many great new friendships and i grew as a player. From the time spent in Abbotsford at the Summer Games and on Vancouver Island leading up to it, many of my fondest memories were created - despite getting a concussion. She continued to remind me that when my head first got hit, i looked down at my uniform and was hysterical over the fact that i didnt know why i was wearing green and white since my colors from Brentwood College School were Red and Black. Even though i couldn't play in the finals, i still felt like an important part of the team (#1 cheerleader!), helping to earn that silver medal! I owe that in part to Taaffe; thank you for the wonderful rugby experience you gave me. Your vibrant spirit lives through everyone you've touched.

Taaffe was one of the most inspirational people I have ever has the pleasure of knowing. She taught me how to play rugby, and with her teaching, encouragement, and drive I went from knowing nothing about the sport, to team captain. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for her and what she gave me. I gained more confidence, physical and mental strength, and leadership playing for the Queen Bees than I could have gotten doing anything else. I have Courtenay, or Taaffe as we called her, to thank for that. When I graduated from Stelly's and could not longer play with the Queen Bees, it felt like the end of something amazing. Now, though, it feels that way even more so, and it makes me so sad. I am so, so glad that I had the honour and pleasure of playing for the Queen Bees at their best, under the coaching of Courtenay Taaffe. Taaffe, you're in my thoughts everyday, and I dedicate every try I've ever scored to you. Thank you so much for everything you gave me and everyone who can call themself a Queen Bee. Love, Claire Cariou

Courtney lit up the room on our first "meet the teacher night" at Stelly's. She set the tone for us that day and for Ciara in her first semester at Stelly's. She always had so much enthusiasm! She taught our girls to swim. The girls remember her coming to help at Keating, along with her sister, Kelli. Courtenay's zest for life won't disappear with her passing, it is a torch she has already passed on to everyone who has met her.
Our thoughts are with her family during this very difficult time.

After working with Courtney for years at Panorama I learned how important positive energy and enthusiasm for life is. "While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet her behind the veil." How lucky they are.....

Taaffe. There hasn't been a day in the last few months that i haven't thought about you. You have had such an impact on the school and community. You taught me dance, and swimming in elementry school and then gym and socials at Stellys, you believed in me and made sure i always came to class and that i stayed on the right track. You are one of the strongest people I have ever known. I will never forget you and the things you taught me. Your postive attitude has had such an affect on me. I'll always think of you and smile when i walk past freedmans. i will never ever forget you and how much of a fighter you are. Thank you for everything you did for me.

Dear Mike and Diane
I was given the opportunity and pleasure to meet you both and Courtenay when I came to give her a Reiki treatment. It was a gift to be in her presence and see a beautiful young woman handling her illness with such grace and dignity. May Courtenay continue on her journey with the knowledge that the deep love that her family enveloped her with will be forever be in her soul.
In love and light

I will always remember Mme. Taaffe's spirit and energy. She was a great teacher who never gave up on her students. I had her from the age of three as a swim instructor who never gave up on me when I wouldn't get in the water; to a P.E. and Socials teacher who took the extra time to truly make sure you knew what you were doing. She was a truly amazing person and even though she maybe be gone, she will be in our hearts and memories forever. My thoughts are with you during these times. Nadine

Dear Dianne,
I never knew her first name was Susan. I'm so glad I know that now. From her lasting friendship with Adam and from Ben's coming home from school saying,"Hey! Guess who my P.E. teacher is? Miss. Taaffe", I still only knew her as Courtenay, your daughter. My respect for your daughter certainly had its root in my respect for you. However, my children always talked about her with such admiration and affection that she has obviously earned her adjectives on her own.
We are blessed with our children and the world is made greater by their very existence. I cannot feel your pain but as a mother, I share your sorrow and wish that it could have been different for you and for Courtenay. May Courtenay's love continue to hold you in the palm of her hand, forever and ever.
Love from all of us, Lise, Adam, Mathew, Rebecka and Ben.

This message is to say thank you to Courtenay Taaffe for being the best friend a Mom could ask for, for her daughter. Since the first week we moved here until the last moment of her life, Carla and Courtenay were the best of friends. I am so grateful for this 14 year relationship between Carla and Courtenay. Courtenay was a trusting, loyal, protective and caring friend. She was fun, generous and full of vitality. I know how painful it is for Carla and all Courtenay's other family and friends to have lost her. Yet Courtenay was a gift to anyone that knew her, even if for only such a short time.
Thanks, Courtenay, for loving Carla. Thanks for being such a great friend to my daughter.
With deep sadness and regret,
Diane Lair

For the past 14 years I have had the honor of being Courtenay's best friend. Sharing life with this fiesty little red-head has made me a better person, has made me the person I am today...
Courtenay's strength, courage and incredible sense of humor were never more evident than during the last eight months of her life. Even up to the final moments, she was brave, and someone that I am so proud to have known. It was an honor to walk this final journey with her and share all that goes with battling cancer. I will never forget her. I will always love her. My heart goes out to Dianne and Mike and all of Court's family. I will keep them in my prayers.
Sadly and sincerely,

Courtenay was one of the most amazing people I have ever had the honour of calling my friend. Her presence instantly brightened up a room and her spirit could light a fire in anyone's soul. I will forever remember and cherish the times we spent in high school and University together. The world will be a lesser place for having lost this amazing wonderful woman. I am who I am today only because I had her in my life as a best friend during high school. My thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family. May her spirit live on forever in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
