RAPTIS, Theodore (Ted)
March 18, 1927 - July 26, 2024
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Theodore, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He died peacefully at home in Victoria. Born in Perama, Greece, Ted trained as a mechanic and also served as a police officer in Piraeus from 1947 to 1955. Having survived the occupation of Greece during World War II and then the Civil War (1946-1949), Ted made it his goal to provide a better life for his family. In 1955, he immigrated to Canada with little more than the clothes he wore and married Angela, his loving wife of 69 years, with whom he raised a family through hard work and much sacrifice. From 1969 until 1985, he and Angela - with his brother Gus and his wife Lela - ran Scott's restaurant, a Victoria icon. During that time, he worked the graveyard shift 7 days a week, making many friends and acquaintances who continue to post about Scott's on Facebook's "Old Victoria, BC" site.
Ted had a keen mind, was an avid reader and would discuss history - particularly the Greek Civil War - as well as current affairs at every possible opportunity. He was also an active member and benefactor of the Victoria and Vancouver Island Greek Community and AHEPA. Post-retirement, he spent many summers visiting old friends and family in Greece or traveling in Europe and the Middle East.
Ted was predeceased by his parents Athanasios and Vasiliki, and his brother Vasilis. Ted will be deeply missed by his wife: Angela; children: Billie, Vickie (Neil), Helen, and Tom (Josepha) and his grandchildren: Alexandra (James), Andrew (Ally), Jason (Marcie), Maria, David, Theo, Stephanie, and great-grand-children: Amelia, Olly, and Evie; as well as extended family and friends both in Canada and Greece. Ted viewed himself as truly blessed, once asking "with a loving wife and a good family and friends, what more could a man ask for?"
The family wishes to thank those who helped care for Ted over the past 2 years, including but not only: Dr. Robert Janicki, Zoi Sipsas, Gemma Pascual, Karen Alberts, and all the VIHA health care workers who have been enormously helpful.
A Funeral Service was held at the Ypapanti Greek Orthodox Church of Victoria followed by interment at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ted's name to the Ypapanti Greek Orthodox Church.
