Thomas Maxwell Obituary

Thomas Edward Maxwell, 73, of Victoria, BC, passed away on February 24, 2022. Thomas lived his life fully and loved others wholly even as he battled through cancer these last eight years. Thomas worked for 35 years with the provincial government, land surveying and later, as environmental stewardship officer with the Ministry of Environment. In his retirement, he found another true calling for 15 years as a Captain for Sea Fun Safaris and Eagle Wing Tours. He was a loving husband to Linda, and an amazing father to Aaron, Chris, and Sarah, as well as to daughters-in-law Kwyn, Alaine, Christina, Malika, and Breanna and sons-in-law Segovia, Craig, and Rick. Thomas' pride and joy were his grandchildren, Noah, Keaton, Zariyan, Preston, Grayson, Leo and Kylie. Thomas is survived by his sister Cathy and brother Jim and sister-in-law Donna as well as extended family. The family would also like to thank the many healthcare providers that assisted Thomas.

I was so sorry to hear the news about Tom. I grew up across the street and while closer in age to Cathy and Jim, I remember Tom as the friendly and kind big brother. My thoughts are with you.

Thomas was a kind and gentle man and a great storyteller with a wide range of interests and experiences. Chris and I enjoyed our whale watching sailings, our many dinners together, our pickleball games and of course the coffees afterwards. I regret never having asked him to knit one of his beautiful hats for me. He will be deeply missed. Rest In Peace.

I only knew Thomas for about 5 years but from day 1 we became very good friends. He would invite for rides in his BMW, often when there was space on an Eagle Wing whale watching afternoon trip Thomas would invite me along. I learned so much about the hump back and killer whales, along with comments and sightings of different varieties of seals. Thomas was so matter of fact and patient with young people on the tours. I shall miss our frequent telephone conversations when Thomas was always upbeat about his illness and treatment. Rest in peace my friend.

Thomas was a good man in every sense of the phrase; kind, loyal, friendly. He was also a wonderfully funny guy who brightened our (James Bay Tennis Group) lives on a daily basis. He will be missed by many, many folks.

I volunteered with Tom for 5 years with Oak Bay Sea Rescue and later we worked together in the Whale watching business. Tom was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who asked. His quiet sense of humour and natural kindness was always evident.
You left the world a better place Tom and you will be sorely missed...
