Thomas NIMBLEY Obituary

NIMBLEY, Thomas (Tom) Patrick "Born To Fish" Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away in the Philippines on April 10th, 2013, at the age of 81. Tom was born in Montreal in 1932, worked in telecommunications in Montreal, on the Dew Line and finally in Bamfield in the early 50's where his love of fishing bloomed and never faltered. At the time of his death Tom was the owner and skipper of the AVISA. He was a well known, respected, West Coast fisherman; the Ancient Mariner latterly packed on the Fraser River. Tom was an outstanding athlete who enjoyed family dinners, hanging out with the grandchildren and the camaraderie with his many friends. He lived every day of his life as if it was his last. In later years Tom spent a great deal of time in warmer climates with family and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents Sara and Thomas, brother John, and step daughter Linda. He is survived by sister in law Francoise, special nephew "Tommy", Michael, and nieces Susan and Frances. Tom was a wonderful loving steadfast Step Dad to Sandra (Gary) McDannold, Gerald Hughes, Debra (Barry), Kwiatkowski, Brenda McIsaac, Bob (Kathleen) McIsaac, and Brent (Rosa) McIsaac. Beloved Poppa to Angela, Laura, Catlin, and Gramps to Stephen, Shannan, Liam, Luke, Gage, and Itzel. Tom was blessed to have many loving and loyal friends including his 80 year long friendship with Eddie Scott and his 30 years with his former partner and still friend Carolyn. Special thanks to Dave Shore and Dave McCulley for watching out for him in the last few years. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held on Sunday, April 28th, 2pm, at the Archie Browning Sports Center. Bring your happy memories!! In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Firefighters Burn Fund Victoria.

Smooth sailing old friend, we are all gonna miss that warm smile on the waters and not to mention that mud you called coffee.

Our children used to say when Tom came to visit us - "he's the real Santa!"

Tom came into my life when I was a bratty teenager with the attitude he wasn't my dad and he sure wasn't going to tell me what to do. He straightened me out quick enough with his attitude, I am not here to be your father, I love your mother and the only thing I expect from you spoiled brats is to treat her with respect. He soon became our confidant, our friend, our kick in the butt when we needed a reality check, our Dad in every sense of the word. A man to be admired, respected, who kept your deepest darkest secrets, who was there when you needed him no questions asked. His blue eyes that sparkled with love when he gazed at our mother or when he was with his grand children. It never crossed my mind to NOT name my son after my step dad because in my heart he was my dad. He touched all of our lives in many different ways and is deeply missed. He may have entered our lives as mom's boyfriend, but he left our lives as our dad.....Most likely Tom is looking down (or up) and wondering why we are all making a big fuss, its because we love you and miss you dearly Tom...Happy fishing where every you are. Love Brenda & Gage David Thomas xx

Special people touch our lives and leave us changed long after they are gone. We are richer for having had the pleasure.

We will remember the smiling, the talking, the sharing, the caring and the loving.
We will remember the good times...always.
