Dr Parsons was one of my first oceanography professors, and he set the bar. He had that rather rare combination of a deep understanding of the ocean, and humanity. He was an excellent professor- always had time for students. My sincere condolences to his family.

I was fortunate to have Tim as an inspiring teacher when I was a graduate student at UBC and later as a wise mentor when I was a junior faculty. My health was greatly improved around 1990 when Tim kindly lent me his copy of Linus Pauling's vitamin book "How to Live Longer and Feel Better". After retirement, we moved to Victoria, where my wife and I had more opportunities visiting Tim and Carol. Our condolences to Carol and family.

I enjoyed many a lunch with Tim, marvelling at his sharp intellect and keen sense of humour. A remarkable man! Our condolences, Carol.

A long time friend and mentor, always respectful and supportive. Our time in China was a highpoint in my career. My photo shows a group of contributors to a conference on marine enclosures heading off to, I imagine, a wonderful banquet in 1987. Tim is center and Carol to the right.
