Toni BACON Obituary

Catherine Upton Field Bacon, known by all as "Toni" died peacefully with family by her side. In her own words: "Life: I have spent much of it wandering in search of sanity, sobriety, serenity, simplicity, and service. I have been sustained by trees, music, birds and love from my family and caring friends. Ever grateful." She leaves to mourn, love and cherish her memory: Her daughters Julia (Jeff), Lisa (Tim), and Alice (John), and grandchildren Jesse, Katie, Olivia, Haley and Will. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Rest Haven Lodge for their care and love.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday April 6, 2-4 p.m., Horticulture Centre of the Pacific, 505 Quayle Rd., Victoria BC.

It is with much gratitude that I write of Toni Bacon, whom I met at the Quaker Meeting House on Fern Street many years ago. Her joyfulness in the search for simple pleasures, peaceful ways of living, care of the earth including the Meeting House gardens, and in all kinds of music-making, lightened up the room, and my life. Her quietness, her astute rare comments, and infectious laughter during our social times, or when she took charge of the monthly singing before worship will always stay with me. So will my remembrance of the bright halo around her white hair when the sun shone through the window behind where she liked to sit in the corner. I cherish the poems and sayings she shared that spoke to her faith in life, in people, in seeking to be good. Thank you Toni for giving me your copy of the little red book that is the Quaker Advices and Queries. And the poem by e.e.cummings "i thank you God for most this amazing//day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees..." Both you and Will shared much in your AA times, including the love of this poem.

Condolences to the family. Toni spoke often with deep wonder and gratitude with the loving care of her daughters, especially Alice in the last years of her life.

A wonderful obituary for a clearly wonderful person - wish I had known her! Thinking of you, Alice and John. Just about 20 years since I first met you, Alice, through Luminara, courtesy of Julius. Wow - where does the time go?!

Toni was an invaluable part of our Victoria Quaker community -- bringing music back into our practice, and sharing love and wisdom to all.

Julia, Lisa, and Alice

We were privileged to experience Toni´s generosity, wisdom and joy when we lived in Errington. Carol also was lucky enough to be able to visit Toni many years ago after she moved to Victoria. And had the opportunity again to experience your amazing mom.

Despite the passing years, Toni will always have a special place in our hearts.

We send all our love and warm remembrances to all of you and your family at this time.

I was honored to work with Toni at our little Co-op store in Errington. Her ethics and joyful manner made every day a treat.

Seeing it here makes it so real.

I love you Mum and miss you so much. Thank you for being an inspiration, the best mother you could be, a lovely Nana and a really amazing person, in your own inimitable way. Life was not always easy on you, but you loved and were loved very deeply. You will never be forgotten.
