Trevor JONES Obituary
The world is a bit less joy-filled today. A wonderful man was taken from us on August 26, 2025, at the young age of 100. He went on his own terms at home on his 64th anniversary, holding the hand of the love of his life, Isabelle, and with his daughters by his side.
Trevor's daughters and their families are left to try to fill the enormous void he leaves behind: Gwyneth James (Bob), and her sons Trevor and Mitchell; and Mary Ann MacKenzie, and her daughters Rebecca and Samantha.
When family and friends think of Trevor, they will remember his smile and the twinkle in his eye, his laugh, his kindness and generosity, his selflessness, his integrity, his strength of character, his devotion to his family, and his willingness to always give of his time to others. He was not a tall or large man, but his daughters will remember him for his strength and bravery, and for always making us feel protected and safe in the knowledge that he had our backs; he believed in us, lifted us up, and never let us doubt his love for one single second.
Trevor was born in Nottingham, England, on March 2, 1925. His only sibling, Ken, was shot down and went missing in the very last days of WWII. His parents were both gone within months after that. Alone at the age of 21, Trevor could have chosen bitterness and anger at losing his family. But instead he chose to make the world a better place in his own quiet way. He worked various jobs, including chauffeuring, chef, and hotel management, and ultimately came to Canada in the late 1950's where he immediately met two other Brits who would become lifelong friends.
He volunteered to do a Volvo promotion with a friend, driving across Canada nonstop in 1958 in 85 hours 45 minutes, breaking the Canadian coast-to-coast driving record of the time. Isabelle remembers seeing the news of this escapade and thinking, what an idiot! A short time later, while travelling and working in England, Isabelle decided to visit the Overseas Visitors Club on a rainy afternoon. She met this man, Trevor, who had travelled back to England to decide whether he would go back home or stay in Canada. They started talking, decided to go for a walk together, and it took very little time for them to realize they were soul mates. Thank goodness she didn't realize who he was!
Trevor and Isabelle joined each other again in Vancouver where they were married in 1961, then moved to Prince Rupert where he worked full-time, they had their daughters, they made lifelong friends, and he completed his CGA training. The next move was to Central Saanich in 1970. Trevor started his accounting practice in Sidney, then formed his own firm until retiring from that work at 53 but continuing working as a business owner and a "gentleman farmer". During these busy years he also made many more dear friends, volunteered extensively, briefly held office as a Central Saanich councillor, shared his passion of gardening with Isabelle, and honed his wine making skills.
Trevor was a very special man. If you knew him, you were better for it.
Service will be held at Central Saanich (Shady Creek) United Church on Saturday, September 6, at 2:30 PM. Parking is limited, so if able please park off-site and walk to the church.
