Twila Woods Obituary

WOODS, Twila Ethel (nee Marshall) Twila passed away peacefully on October 29, 2018 in Victoria, British Columbia, ready to go and surrounded by love. She was born on October 10, 1943 in Elkhorn, Manitoba to Ben Alexander Marshall and Ruth Eileen Marshall (nee Poston), both deceased. She grew up on a farm near Manson, Manitoba with her younger sister, Judy McAuley, now of Edmonton. Twila is survived by Calvin, her beloved husband of 52 years, her children and grandchildren, and a wonderful extended community of family and friends who will all miss her dearly. Twila and Cal lived in many places in western and northern Canada before moving to Victoria in 1986. In addition to raising family, she spent many years working in television production and sales, initially in Yorkton and later in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In Victoria, she worked in interior design and lifestyle retail; volunteered part-time as a crisis line responder; and nurtured her passion for philosophy, literature and First Nations studies as a mature student at the University of Victoria. She loved art, music and travel; good food, nice wine and single malt whisky; the wide, bright skies of the prairies; reading, reflecting and exploring with her book clubs; and mostly, enjoying life with the friends and family she loved. There will be a reception to honour and celebrate Twila's life in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 1. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallgardens.com

I'm going to quote Twila's own wisdom which she shared with me after my sister passed away a year and a half ago. She sent me this email on July 29, 2017:
"Grieving is never 'over' ... I believe this to be true and I believe it to be a good thing because as we continue to adjust ourselves to find the places within us where we will carry the people we loved, they are not lost and their lives continue to have meaning for us. I think this does not end, it just becomes more comfortable and we come to peace." May we all arrive at this place of peace as we treasure our memories of the time we had with Twila - family and friends alike.

This is such sad news. Twila always added such insightful comments to our book discussions and certainly never let her battle with cancer deter her participation in a full life. Unfortunately, I will still be in Ontario so will be unable to attend her service. Hugs, Michelle

Such sad news. I didn't know Twila all that well, but did miss her energetic and well read participation in our book club. We had a short conversation a few months ago when I found myself sitting next to her at a local restaurant. She seemed so well, that I find it hard to believe between then and now she succumbed to the cancer which, I knew, she had been living with for quite some time. Condolences to all, Donna

Thank you for letting me know. What a wonderful woman, I have such fond memories of Twila.

Thanks for forwarding this - I too have such great memories of Twila - she was an amazing person! Cheers, Wendy

What a remarkable, intelligent woman she was! As you can gather from the comments she was a lively addition to our Book Club and we were all saddened when she found it too difficult to continue to attend our gatherings.

So strong and such a fighter, she was an example to all of us.

Our thoughts are with you all. I think she would approve of the sentiments expressed below

When i think of Twila, the word that comes to mind is 'meaningful'. In seriousness or in play, in one-on-one or group discussion, I knew I could count on words that would stay with me, that would leave me with something to chew on. I will miss you, my book club friend; knowing you has been an honour and a privilege
