Valerie Creighton Obituary

CREIGHTON, Valerie Eleanor June 27, 2017 Our beloved Valerie passed quietly away after a valiant struggle against an inoperable subdural hematoma (brain injury), the result of an accidental fall at home on June 18th. She was born in Edmonton on October 12, 1943. She moved to Victoria in 1977 following the death of her first husband, Leo McNamara. She lived in Wilderness Park Co-op while she raised her children, Eleanor and Patrick. It was also where she met and to her second husband's joy and everlasting fortune; she met and married Hugh Creighton. They lived in Oak Bay for many years, including those while Eleanor and Patrick completed their school years. After working in retail at Woodward's and Hudson's Bay for some years, she eventually joined Hugh in his property management business. They travelled as often as possible visiting many countries around the world. Valerie was predeceased by her father, Ron and her mother, Joyce Block. She is survived by her children, Eleanor and Patrick and her granddaughter, Chloe Eleanor Olive McNamara, the love and joy of her life for the past eleven years. She is also survived by Hugh's family, Alex (Alexandra) and Peter (Hugh-Peter) Creighton, Alex's husband, Mark Dodd and Peter's wife, Christine; Hugh's grandchildren, Maxwell and Simon, who are now grieving with their grandpa, as is Hugh's twin brother, Colin. As a final twist, Valerie's death occurred on Hugh's 81st birthday and on the eve of Chloe's graduation (Grade 5) at McCauley French Immersion School. The family will be arranging a celebration of Valerie's very special life in due course, so that all who loved her can reminisce with us. Many thanks to the many members of the medical team at Victoria General Hospital who worked on her behalf. Valerie is now free to soar with the eagles. Those who wish to may consider a donation to the local Parkinson's Society in her memory. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallgardens.com
