Vanessa SODERBERG Obituary

Vanessa Anne Soderberg was born on March 27th, 1975 on Vancouver Island and sadly left us on February 24, 2024 in Victoria, British Columbia.

Vanessa was a natural caregiver who always put others first. In her early years she channeled her passion into caring for others as a registered nurse. Later, she channeled that same passion towards caring for her family. She was a devoted mother to her two boys, Walker and Charlie. Vanessa was a fantastic creative writer and an advanced figure skater and skier. She, like her children, was creative and athletic. Vanessa encouraged her children to play the instrument and sport of their choice and was always their biggest fan.

Vanessa was warm, kind, bright, and devoted to her loved ones. Her charisma, humor and infectious smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Vanessa's family and friends take comfort in knowing that her memory will live on through the lives she impacted and the example of warmth and kindness she set for us all. Vanessa is survived by her two children, Walker and Charlie; her three brothers, Drew, Bryce, and Cameron; her mother and father, Sharon and Stuart; a large extended family, and many friends.

I was so saddened to read that Vanessa had passed away. As a teacher, I always admired Vanessa for her sense of commitment to all she encountered. Apprehensive when she first came to the school, she soon came to be admired and loved by so many students around her. She was ever self-effacing but, deceptively, so talented in many ways. My thoughts and condolences are very much with her family, and I am grateful for the privilege of having helped such a grateful and willing student.

Vanessa was one of the kindest people I ever met. Her smile lit up a room. I met her through hockey. I am so deeply saddened to hear of her passing.

I mentored Vanessa when she was a nursing student. I’m so very sad to hear of her passing and send my deepest condolences to her loved ones. She was an exceptionally compassionate and kind person and we grew close sharing the life and death moments associated with the art of nursing. I will never forget the look on her face when she had the privilege of handing a newborn baby to her father. This world is much less bright with the loss of this beautiful woman Rest in peace Ness❤

The loss of Vanessa is heart-shattering news for her family especially. Then, the thousands she touched long her challenging journey. Her smile, good nature and loving personality brought light to our lives. Her memory will keep that light glowing every moment that her spirit will shine for us. This is from a small poem she inspired:
Her spirit came from roots so deep,
Her shadow falls where angels weep.
Now beyond us, beyond our call,
Vanessa-a life gift to us all.

Vanessa and I worked at VGH together over 20 years ago. When I got engaged she surprised me on a nite shift with bride and groom gumby doll picture frames, I still have them and when I look at them I have always thought of her and her sweet thoughtfulness. I ran into Vanessa from time to time she´d always have her big smile, we´d share a warm hug and chat about something that would ultimately make us laugh
Vanessa was a gem
My deepest sympathies to her family

I remember Vanessa as a young girl, a student at Saseenos Elementary School when we started a Peer Counselling program nearly 40 years ago. She stands out in my memory as such a natural , empathic soul. So full of life, good humour and a strong desire to be of service to to others even at such an early age.

Remembering my lovely neighbour. Your love and care for Walker and Charlie were always evident from the time they were little boys trick or treating on Halloween up to how you so strongly supported Walker's music. I'll always remember your kindness toward all of us on the street. My deep condolences to your beautiful boys, all of you family, and friends.
