LOCK Walter, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2002. Survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Glady; adored children David (Taffy), Norman, Doreen (Fred) Shanks and Alan; cherished grand- children Jenna, Ian, Emily and Derek. He will be sadly missed by his cousins and many dear friends. Walter was born in Victoria on February 10, 1919, and grew up in the community of Esquimalt. He served his country in the Second World War as a Flight Lt. in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Walter flew many missions in Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine and Italy with his Spitfire Squadron 225, and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross by King George VI. After the war he returned to Victoria with his bride Glady, where they raised their four children. Family and friends will all remember the wonderful times they shared with Walter at the family cottage in East Sooke. In 1984 he retired from the Pacific Forestry Research Centre. An active community person he was Past Master of Victoria Masonic Lodge No. 1, served on the Esquimalt council for many years, and became a supportive member of the Rods and Reels Club and Air Force Officers Association. Walter will be remembered for his wit, compassion and generosity. He loved outdoor life and lived it to the fullest. Sincere thanks to Dr. Kevin Wylie, the palliative care team, Hospice staff and Veterans' Affairs. A memorial service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson at Vancouver St., on Wednesday, May 29, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Graham McCall Family Centre.
