Walter MAGEE Obituary

MAGEE, Walter Joseph 62, died peacefully March 2, 2012 at hospice in Victoria, BC after a struggle with pancreatic cancer. Walter is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lyn; daughters Tyleen (Auke), Alisha (Dave), and Kris; and sons Jason and Josh. Grandchildren: Emily, Nathan, Tim, Joel, Hannah, Jaden, and Jayda. Also good friend Chris, many foster children and other dear friends. Walter was born July 30, 1949 in Victoria to John and Delia Magee. The fifth of eight children, Walter was a beloved younger brother to Fred, Francis, Margaret, Peter and Ken; and a supportive older brother to Alan and Liz. Walter lived a full and active life; growing up in Victoria and then moving with his family in 1980 to spend 12 years in Sointula clearing land and building homes from the ground up with his own hands. Relocating to Merville in 1993, he and Lyn owned United Carpet Campbell River. In 2006 Lyn and Walter moved back to Victoria. Walter continued to work in sales for United Carpet. They settled on a beautiful lakefront property. Their years on the lake together have been full of the love of friends and family, barbeques and grandchildren, celebrations and quiet times. Walter was actively involved in church life at Sointula Community Church, Black Creek United Mennonite, and Westshore Alliance, Victoria. He will be deeply missed by these congregations and particularly their music teams, with whom he shared his talents of singing and guitar. Walter also leaves a legacy of service and commitment to chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous in the communities where he has lived. He was known and loved as the Muffin Man" to the 7:00 am Langford Daybreak group. It would be impossible to summarize a person's life in words, but Walter won his way into the hearts of all he met with his sense of humor and generosity. He understood what it meant to give of self and live in community. His death leaves a huge void in our hearts. The family requests donations to the Vancouver Island cancer society in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10 at 1 pm at Colwood Pentecostal Church, 2250 Sooke Road, Victoria, BC. Reception to follow in the church hall. 650550
