Walter Prendergast Obituary

PRENDERGAST, Walter Patrick
We are sad to announce the passing of Walter Patrick Prendergast, age 94. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2026.
Walter was born in London, England on August 23, 1931 to John and Eileen Prendergast. He met and married the love of his life, Anne Elizabeth, in March of 1957 and promptly emigrated to Canada in search of adventure and a better life. After a short stay in Nova Scotia, Walter and Anne moved to Toronto where they settled down and raised a family. Walter was an avid soccer player, sailor, recreational pilot and enjoyed a successful career as an accountant for the Ontario Provincial Government before retiring to Victoria, British Columbia in 1992.
During his retirement, Walter kept active by playing tennis, golfing, travelling, hiking and volunteering with the Red Cross. Walter enjoyed visits with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and relished the many robust philosophical discussions he would initiate about the meaning of life and our purpose here on Earth. We are comforted by the fact that he hopefully now has all those answers.
Walter was an extremely kind, loving and generous person; family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Walter was predeceased by his wife of 63 years along with his parents John and Eileen, sister Rita and brother Seanie. He is survived by his son Philip (Barb), daughter Karen (Thomas), granddaughters Stephanie (Chris), Andrea (Dan), Elizabeth (Silviu), grandson Graeme (Nikki), step-great-grandson and great-granddaughters along with many family members in South Africa, Australia, Ireland and England.
Dad, wherever you are, we know you are looking out for us. Thank you for being the best dad ever. Cheers, we will miss you!
