Wendy DeCorte Obituary

DeCORTE, Wendy Ann (nee Franklin)
Wendy Ann DeCorte (nee Franklin), passed away in the presence of loved ones at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC on September 17th, 2024 at the age of 77.
Wendy is survived by her husband, Brian George DeCorte; her daughter Debbie and her son Tim, her grandchildren Brody and Erin and her great-grandchildren Harley and Joshua. Forever loved and remembered by her siblings Bob Franklin (Patti), and Gay Haycox (Ron), nephews Scott and Blair, nieces Jennifer and Michelle, best friend Suzanne MacDougal as well as numerous other family members and close friends. Wendy was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Martha Franklin and recently by her brother-in-law Ron Haycox. Wendy was born in Toronto on October 13th, 1946. She grew up in Baie-D'Urfé and attended Macdonald high school. Most of her 20s were spent residing in Quebec. Life events eventually led to Wendy relocating with her daughter to BC, to be closer to her parents. It was here, in 1984, that Wendy met and married Brian. Their love, loyalty and shared adventures carried them through the next 39 years.
Wendy had many varied interests and passions throughout her life. When she wasn't hiking in alpine meadows or taking extended road trips to the US to discover family history, she was writing books, furthering her education or volunteering her time with various causes. Her love of music, laughter and people was unparallelled. She was the type of person who could burst into song in the kitchen, tell you a joke that would leave you in stitches and who would always be at the ready to fight for the underdog.
There are no number of words that could ever sum up the total of Wendy's life. She wanted nothing more than to have more time here. Her battle through two rare forms of Cancer (Waldenstrom's and Cholangiocarcinoma) was lengthy, diligent, courageous and mighty.

"And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through"

Our deepest condolences Brian and Debbie. Wendy was our neighbour when we lived in the Cameo Co-op. She was so generous and loving. She kept in touch after we moved. I have pictures of the baby shower she did when our daughter was born. I'm so sorry I didn't see her recently. She called me just as covid started. We had a lovely chat. May you memories give you comfort at this time and in the months ahead. Love from Al and Chris Havers
