I read the previous tributes and agree wholeheartedly with every compliment to Bill. I can only add that as a part of the Safety Roundup Singers, I was extraordinarily blessed to have known and been taught and mentored by Bill for years. His voice echoes in my mind EVERY time I sing a campfire song, or think of stepping away from a difficult task. I was always in awe of his humility and enduring kindness. He was truly a person one encounters once in life and I am forever grateful. Love and peace to the family.

My condolences to the Chisholm family, I first met Bill in the late 50’s while attending the Stanley Jones School . I played a snare drum in the Calgary School Patrol Band that he and Sgt. Don Hanson brought to the School. I remember a smiling, positive, patient happy Policeman who went out of his way to help you achieve your goal. Bill and Don arranged many trips for the band in the summer in Alberta by Bus. Also a major trip by Air to Ottawa and a Train trip to Vancouver for a Grey Cup Game in the early 60’s. Being associated to Bill and Don while they both were members of the Calgary Police Force inspired me to take a bold step and I joined the Calgary Police Force in 1971. I believe I was the only member of the Calgary School Patrol Band to join the Calgary Police Force. CST Chisholm you were a great man and a great inspiration to many young people Rest In Peace. Jan and family
Our thoughts and are with you and your family. The number of condolences from friends and area folks are a tribute to Bill as we knew him here at Calgary. He was a wonderful attribute to the Calgary Police Service during the time he was with us. His work with Don Hanson through the unique School Patrol system and weekend TV shows fostered extremely good relationships with the CPS. He was a positive influence in Calgary youth and a credit to his profession, as he apparently continued to be for Saanich and with BC youth. A life well lived - a credit to Canada and to his family.

I spent 7 fun years in the Great Victoria Police Choir with Bill. Bill started the Choir in 1983 and it continues today. Bill was a natural leader and fun to be around. Prior to Covid I’d run into Bill occasionally at the Panorama Rec Centre gym where Bill would be having a workout fit for a 50 year old. Bill was a terrific guy and I’ll miss bumping into him.
Condolences on your loss Jan and family.

I hadn’t seen Bill for many years and was sorry to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family.
I met Bill when I was with the police chorus when it first began many years ago. He was a wonderful person and I enjoyed his enthusiasm and ability to not only sing but bring people together. We both sang second tenor and I relied on his voice and talent to get my part right.
I always looked forward to his fellowship in the group.

Every police officer should aspire to be like this man. He earned the love and respect of the communities in which he served. I hold great memories of his visits to McKenzie Elementary School many years ago. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Bill. I have fond memories of him coming to Beaver Lake Elementary and giving our classes safety talks. He was always smiling. Back then he was constable Chisholm. For most of us he was the first policeman we had met. He left a lasting impression on many students.

We cannot say enough how much we will miss our sweet Bill. He was always so interested in what our kids and our grandkids were doing. Brian and Bill had a special bond through their love of bike riding and just any kind of physical activities. We will always cherish days spent on their beach and of course a few cold beers. We have so many memories to be thankful for that we will keep in our hearts forever. Bill was an upstanding kind of guy and true to his word.

Gramps was an inspiration to so many, including myself. He always made sure everyone around him was taken care of and always has a smile on his face doing it.
I have fond memories of spending time at his home in his garden, or at the beach swimming in the ocean for hours and hours, and playing shinny old timers hockey with him, and to everyone’s surprise he always was able to skate circles around the younger players. He never missed a beat, and always had fun doing it!
He will be deeply missed, forever and always in our hearts!
Love you gramps!

Bill was seconded to the Canadian Police College in Ottawa in 1977, where we worked together. As a result we became friends and had maintained contact ever since. Bill was a charming charismatic human being who was a pleasure to be around. His positive influence impacted on his beloved profession of law enforcement. My condolences go out to Jan and family.

Uncle Bill was not only a very special Uncle to me, but clearly a truly special person to everyone in his many and varied walks of life. My memories are of his warmth and caring, his gentle humour and smile, his fridge full of Coca Cola (which he would sneak to us when my mother wasn't watching), and yes...his very tidy garden! When I was a student at Northridge Elementary he would visit the school to play floor hockey at lunch hour with the students and I was so proud to be able to say "That's my Uncle Bill!"
Visiting "Auntie Bill and Uncle Jan's" house was always a highlight. There was plenty of fun and laughter. In my twenties, I would visit their local beach with them, and Uncle Bill would try to introduce me to his neighbours' sons! In later years, when I would visit Victoria with my own children, they became known as "the Caramilk Aunt and Uncle" because they would sneak chocolate bars into my kids pockets before they left. Some things never change.
I will miss you Uncle Bill.
Love to you Auntie Jan.

I remember being 3 years old or so and running down the stairs to the basement where my Dad would be making purses and wallets with leather etchings, and he would swoop me up in his arms and dance me around his workshop while he sang to me and we danced cheek to cheek. I remember every summer we would spend family vacations at Shawnigan Lake where he would swim with me and race me to the island and it seemed I always won. I remember how every week we would go grocery shopping and he would always buy me fudgesicles. He would always take my Nana, his mom, for grocery shopping and Sunday drives and then to our house for his favorite British meal, roast beef and yorkshire puddings. I remember Dad letting me help decorate the car for the parade on Victoria day and although I wasn't even old enough to go to school, he made me feel like my paper flowers for the car were awesome. My dad was my hero ever since I can remember and he always will be. I was always wanting to do whatever he was doing which sometimes got me into trouble when he was fixing a light socket and I was trying to mimic what he was doing and got a shock. My dad was the first man I ever loved, the first man who ever held me, and there will be a huge hole in my heart forever, but I know I will see him again. My son, Tyler had a deep respect and love for my Dad, my daughters Michele, Ashley, Paige and Kat didn't know my Dad as well because they didn't have the opportunity to know him. Some of my Dads great-grandchildren are already following in his footsteps as they are getting into hockey and will carry on his zest for the sport. My dad will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Uncle Bill and Auntie Jan were very favorite relatives. They both had a soft spot for kids and went out of their way to get to know us. We devoured their potato chips and dip during Christmas parties, admired Uncle Bill's singing with the Totem Tones, and were proud to be fingerprinted by him at the Saanich Police Station. When we were older, they continued to keep in touch and showed great kindness during difficult times. Uncle Bill was quiet but, when you looked in his eyes, you knew he was listening and cared deeply. He will be missed.

Auntie Jan, my condolences on the passing of your Sweet William. I have fond memories of my Uncle Bill. I enjoyed the times I spent with him over the years, whether he was telling an interesting story, or listening to what was going on in my life, or visiting your home in Brentwood Bay and seeing Uncle Bill's gardens and how he kept the property so immaculate. I always marveled at his physical condition and how I could barely keep up with him on a bike or walk. He was a remarkable and accomplished man that I looked up to. Rest in peace Uncle Bill.

I will always fondly remember visits with Auntie Jan and Uncle Bill. Uncle Bill always had great stories or new athletic feats to share. My love of sports is partly due to those moments. Also, the days at the beach and checking out the garden. Many great memories. Love and Comfort to Auntie Jan.

Its funny how some names/people remain with you as you get older. For me, Bill Chisholm was one of those people. As a kid growing up in the 60's I recall "Sgt Chisholm" visiting Frank Hobbs elementary and giving safety talks. His visits were met with enthusiasm from the kids and he was a positive influence on how we thought of police officers.

I am very sad to hear of Mr. Chisholm's passing. I have fond memories of him from his Saanich Police days, when he came to my Kindergarten class to film for his "You and the Law" program and many years later when he took the time to speak with me when I considering a career in policing. He had an amazing voice and I enjoyed listening to him sing with the Totem Tones. He was a great friend to my parents, my sincere condolences to Jan and the family.

Bill Chisholm was a wonderful man and policeman. As a Saanich councillor, I was so impressed with his leadership style and his commitment to community service. His work with young people in particular was exceptional. Bill was a blessing to all he came in connect with and will be sorely missed.
