WILLIAM JOHN EDE

1925-2015

William John Ede was born February 15, 1925, in Croydon, England to Percy William Ede and Florence May (Palmer) Ede, and passed away May 6th, 2015, in Sidney, British Columbia. William had four siblings and his Ede ancestors have resided in the Croydon area since the 1750's. William served in the British Navy during World War II. After, the war, he married Lillian Hellyar. They had two sons and lived in Barry, Wales. As a paratrooper he was sent to Germany to participate in military maneuvers. William immigrated with his family, in 1957, to Canada and made Edmonton, Alberta his home. There he worked as a Plant Superintendent for Catalytic Construction for many years. He retired from his career at Diamond Shamrock, Fort Saskatchewan.

In 1970, William married Sheila Bandcroft. William and Sheila retired to Sidney, BC in 1990. William's passions included dancing, flying and scuba diving. He was the Master of the Sidney Masonic Lodge in 1994. William is survived by his wife Sheila of 45 years: sons, John Raymond Ede (Gail) of New Westminster; BC; Raymond Peter Ede (Elena) of Barry, Wales; Maurice Bandcroft of Thailand; and a daughter Janine Mary Bandcroft of Victoria, BC.

William was also grandfather to six grandchildren and great-grandfather to two great grandchildren.

A celebration of William John Ede's life will be held at Mount Newton Masonic Hall, 8105 Derrinberg Road, Saanichton, BC on Saturday, May 23 at 1:00 pm.
