William (Bill) Stoneman of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly from complications of cancer treatment on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 63 years.
Born in Calgary, Bill was the beloved son of Douglas and Joan Stoneman. He was a devoted brother to Sharon and Michael, and a cherished presence in the lives of his extended family and friends.
Bill trained as a civil engineer at the University of Alberta, and followed up with a Master's in Cold Water Engineering at Memorial University. He worked for several companies in Calgary, most recently with Whitecap Resources Inc. He loved his work, and earned the respect of colleagues through his intelligence, integrity, and strong work ethic.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was deeply committed to giving back. He served as a mentor to many, offering guidance, encouragement, and steady support. His generosity of spirit and willingness to invest in others left a lasting impression on countless lives.
Bill enjoyed travel and embraced new places, cultures, and experiences, carrying that sense of openness and adventure throughout his life. He was known for his kindness, quiet strength, and thoughtful presence. His family is extremely grateful for the devoted and caring friends he had in Calgary and elsewhere.
Bill is survived by his mother Joan, his sister Sharon (Wilf), and brother Mike (Christine). He is also survived by the Laur and Haley families, his family in all the ways that matter. He was predeceased by his father Doug.
A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at First Assembly Church (6031 Elbow Dr SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the gymnasium at the church.
