Fond memories of Zheng Wu and the time we shared. He was a schoolmate of my father's brother and also of my father's brother's wife during the Comrade Deng era.

LanJing
Terrible to learn that Zheng passed away. I was trying to contact him for a guest lecture in HK. Xiaohong and I send this condolence. We had a lot of dinners together in a short 2 years while I was on faculty in Geography. Zheng was funny, always with Beijing's dirty words as we grew up in the same period, and not too far. The broadcast Bureau had some apt units there when Zheng grew up. We had a lot of fun memories of childhood environments.

Dear LanJing, I was deeply saddened to learn about Wu Zheng's passing ! I came across his obituary yesterday, almost exactly one year after his passing. Hope you have recovered from grief. It has been 27 years since we left Victoria. There, you and Zheng were the big sister and big brother to us younger friends. You fed us, entertained us, shared your experiences and gave us much needed advice. Pictures of our Tofino camping trip feel like happenings from yesterday. I will always cherish the precious memories. LanJing, take care !

Zheng was an accomplished scholar who lived by his values. His integrity was especially visible as chair of the sociology department where his belief that the discipline is stronger when it embraces multiple perspectives ensured all were treated respectfully and valued irrespective of their ideological leanings. He was taken from us far too soon; his contributions as an intellectual and as a person will be deeply missed. My heartfelt condolences to Lanjing.

My condolences to the family. Zheng was the best mentor I've had in my career, and I will miss him. Zheng was my Master's advisor at UVic 1996-1998. He had a wonderful understated enthusiasm for his work, and he knew how to be motivational and supportive. I enjoyed learning the process of doing research from him, and his advice is still the advice I listen to all these years later.
