Mary McIntyre Obituary

September 28, 2022

May died four days after her 91st birthday. Her childhood in Greenock, Scotland, was marked by poverty and war but enriched by her family's love. After WWII they began a new life in Toronto, where May met and married Karl McIntyre. When her marriage ended, she rejoined the workforce, completing 24 years' service as a bookkeeper and office manager at Prentice, Yates and Clark. May was a loving confidant for friends and family, including children Mary (Don Taylor), Ian (Jennifer), and Paul (Irina Marga); grandchildren Elizabeth Neal (Tim), William McIntyre (Corisa McKee), and Vesper Marga-McIntyre; and great-grandchild Edythe Neal. She was called a "second mother" by niece Evelyn Scott-Ludwig, and nephews David and Mark Wakefield. We will think of her when we hear the bagpipes, and when we hear Harry Belafonte singing "Jamaica Farewell." May worshipped at Mimico Presbyterian Church for 65 years. As a Christian, she knew she'd be reunited with the family that began its new life in Canada 75 years ago: her parents, Willie and Lizzie Thompson (née Lafferty), and her sisters Sadie Beattie, Peggy Thompson, Nan Scott, and Betty Wakefield. A celebration of May's life will take place on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at the G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Ave., Etobicoke ON. Reception to follow.
