Alan STARTIN Obituary

STARTIN, Alan December 14, 1936 - February 11, 2022 Alan passed away in the presence of the love of his life, Donata (his wife of 56 years). He is survived by Donata, as well as his children and grandchildren: Nadine (Les), Alex and Evan; Leanne (Cal), Rorie; and Kevin (Lisa), Trevor and Serena. Alan was born in Chelsea, London, England on December 14, 1936. His parents immigrated to Canada in 1937, settling in Cowichan Bay and then Comox, BC. Alan graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC in 1961, working for CNR and Steelbilt. He started teaching in 1967 in Princeton, then Prince George, and finally Coquitlam, retiring from Centennial School in 1997. Alan's passions included golfing, curling, gardening, fishing, skiing, travelling, and making wine. At the Coquitlam Curling Rink, Alan played in multiple leagues and coached high school students. He was an avid golfer and played as often as he could. Alan and Donata thoroughly enjoyed travelling, and saw much of the world. Alan was known for his booming voice and laugh, his endless energy, his kindness and willingness to help, as well as enjoying a good party. Alan often stated that he felt blessed to have such a wonderful family and many great friends. Alan lived life to the fullest and will be lovingly remembered by all those whose lives he touched. The funeral will be on Monday, March 21st at 1:00 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, followed by a reception. Please contact the family to share a memory at the service. Donations can be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
