Alfred Wilkinson Obituary

Fred (Fudge) was born and raised in Grand Forks B.C. He trained as a pilot in the RCAF and was posted to the Thunderbird RCAF 426 Squadron where he flew Halifaxes for 16 missions. He graduated from UBC and became an Entomologist with Agriculture Canada where he worked for 39 years. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling, lawn bowling, bridge, couples club, Legion 142 and the annual family camp out. Most of all Fred loved people. With his humour, warmth and ability to make everyone feel special, he made many friends. He will be deeply missed by Jean, his wife of 64 years, children Gwen (Chris), Tom (Catherine), and Vicki (Mark), grandchildren Dawn (Jordan), Scott (Tracy), Sean (Kirah), Carly (Steve), Caitlin (Thomas), Libbie and Sam, and great-grandchildren Stella, Carson, Carter and Savanna. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. would be appreciated. Celebration of Life will be held May 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. Helen's church, 4405 W 8th Ave., Vancouver.

It was an honour to know Fred and Jean, I always enjoyed Fred's great sense of humour, and was so pleased to prepare dinner for them both at Crofton Manor, great family and sorely missed , Philip Harris Chef.

Fred was one of the scientists who inspired me when I was a summer student at the Vancouver Research Station. He was a kind and caring man with a great sense of humour. The world would be a better place if there were more Freds in it. My condolences to all family members.
