Hilary WARNE Obituary

WARNE, Hilary December 1946 - August 2017 This was our Hilary: A woman who very definitely knew her own mind; an avid, eclectic reader and an extremely intelligent woman. Hil loved art galleries, jazz and classical music and an evening topped off with a homemade gourmet meal. She was a mixture of a caring friend and an aloof strong willed woman. Above all she was very private. She loved a good laugh but saw the dark side of our world as well. Sometimes a little too much. But, if you looked closely you could often see an Irish twinkle in her eyes and, when you'd least expect it, she'd slip an "argy-bargy" or a "my giddy aunt" into an otherwise intense discussion. When she fell in love and married it was to her dear Desi Varga. It seemed a good match for the two of them later in life. That was our Hil: wife, niece, cousin, neighbour and friend. We miss her.

So sorry to hear of Hil's sudden death, another family member now gone, but she will not be forgotten. She was my late father's first cousin but very much younger, closer to my age than his. While she lost contact for a good few years with her Irish relations we re-established contact in 2005 and emailed and sent Christmas cards ever since. Her emails were always so positive, even when things were difficult. Linda

OMG, I just heard today. Hil and I go back to 1971 when we both arrived in Vancouver and lived at 1357. Hil, Marc, Vince and myself had such times together that I never will forget. Dinners, Seattle trips.
Friends for over the 46 years We kept in touch, lately only 3 or 4 times per year. She was the most wonderful friend. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

I appreciate the kindness & friendship Hil extended to me; am grateful for having briefly glimpsed her deep Irish soul; thankful she introduced me to James Joyce who wrote: One great part of every human existence is passed in a state which cannot be rendered sensible by the use of wideawake language, cutanddry grammar and goahead plot." Joyce again (from Finnegan's Wake): They lived and laughed and loved and left. and (I'll) miss you more as the narrowing weeks wing by: Someday duly, oneday truly, twosday newly, till whensday. Rest in Peace my friend.

Always a delight to know Hil, challenging, but a good friend. Friendship goes back to age 16 at school in Dublin and always a warm welcome from Hilary and her parents at Walton, Dalkey.

I'm so sorry to hear of Hil's passing. She was a lovely lady and I enjoyed working with her. I didn't see her often after her retirement, but we would meet up and have lunch periodically. Rest in peace Hil..

My sincere condolences to Hil's family.....I worked with Hil for a number of years at ICBC. She helped me survive some very tough years before my retirement. Hil was a very intelligent, strong willed individual who was never shy about sharing her thoughts.....and never turned away from a good fight! For those lucky enough to call her a friend, she would give you the shirt off her back! The world's a bit less "shiny" with her passing....
