Joan Mitchell Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt & friend.

Joan was a lovely woman who touched many hearts and impacted many lives. Born in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, and lived most of her life in BC, she brought the small town hospitality with her big town heart to make everyone feel respected and welcomed. She shared many laughs & stories with friends playing Bingo and Canasta and delighted the community with her awesome peanut butter cookies. Her connections with people were honest, personable and uplifting. The world is a beautiful place and she reminded us everyday how fortunate we are.

Joan helped many people in her professional years in Life Insurance and at the New Chelsea Society for Seniors. Her integrity was evident in her genuine approach with people, assisting with their needs with sincerity & compassion.

Joan has filled so many of our lives with warmth and kindness. She was a true friend. She was an amazing sister. Most of all, she was an incredible mother and grandmother "Nan" to her angels. We are forever grateful for her love and her beautiful smile. We appreciate the value of time, because she created the quality in this most precious gift.

She will be missed.

Thank you to everyone who has helped her throughout the years. We invite family and friends to share memories at the Celebration of Joan's Life on Saturday, March 30th at 2pm
Hilton Vancouver Metrotown hotel,

Joan and I were like sisters. We knew each other for 45 years and had many good times and a lot of laughter. She was my soulmate. If you truly knew her - you knew she liked adventure. I often laugh at some of the antics we got up to over the years. Joan saying her hail marys and workin the beads as we sped across Rail Lake in the boat, with me on the motor. If it was rough the beads got worked way more. She didn't swim and was deathly afraid of water but she trusted me to arrive at the cabin safely. For the next 3 weeks I would take the boys and go tramping through the woods and boating with them and Joan would say - thank god I got here - you do whatever you want - I'll do the housework and cooking - you won't catch me in that boat again until we leave, with a chuckle. We had many a good time at the lake even after the boys were no longer going with us and out on their own. Joan was my maid of honor at my wedding. She stayed with Bill and I many a times while traipsing back and forth from BC to Nova Scotia. Her Cape Breton Oat Cakes were the best and my Bill loved them. She helped me with my mother when she worked for Abbeyfield House, St. Margarets Anglican Church, in Burnaby, B.C where she oversaw the Seniors Centre before moving on to Chelsey Manor. She had a good heart and very kind and generous spirit. I will miss her deeply in presence but she will always be with me in spirit and heart.
Her most precious moments were with her girls. She was so very proud of you both and will love you forever. I've added a picture of you I have.
