Joan Robertson Obituary

Joan Mary Robertson, a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully. She spent decades caring for her mother Mary and was a loving sister to Moira who passed away in 1981. Joan is survived by Moira's children - nieces Lorna, Lesley, Fiona, Linda, and nephew Alan. After serving in the Army, Joan enjoyed a long career as a medical secretary at the University of British Columbia. Joan was witty and kind, stylish and educated, loyal and caring. She read every newspaper, and loved film, art, travel, books and chocolate. All will miss her artsy cards, every inch filled with her perfect handwriting and interesting insights. Services will be private. Donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission, Vancouver

I met Joan on one of my visits to Vancouver in the 1990's, introduced by the Robertons on Vancouver Island. I didn't realise at the time that I had other cousins over there and she was so warm, friendly and interesting. We corresponded for many years with Xmas letters. What a great lady and it's sad to think I won't meet up with her again but she did introduce me to the California cousins, so the thread continues.

Dear Joan, you were quite a character... So so intelligent... Well-read... The best politics of anyone I know. You had an interesting life of travel in your younger years but then settled in Vancouver with our dear Granny. I have many fond memories of visiting you and Granny in Vancouver and it meant so much to me that I was able to be with Granny (and you) in her last moments. There was never a dull moment in dealing with you, Joan... Always a lot of spice in your life and you didn't miss a beat, ever! You had a great laugh too. I will miss you. Tons of love, your niece Lorna.

Although we lived very far away, Auntie Joan was a big part of our lives and a lasting connection to our mom. She had the same kind nature and mannerisms. We have many fond memories of visits to Vancouver. Her devotion to our Granny was amazing...we wish we lived closer and were able to care for her as she aged. Rest in peace, Aunt Joan

I have so many fond memories, from reading your long, newsy letters to exploring Vancouver with you and Granny over the years. You will be greatly missed but I take comfort in knowing that you are reunited with our beloved Granny in a better place.
