Kay Walter Obituary

Passed away peacefully on September 10, 2014 with her heartbroken family at her side. She was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan on September 11, 1937, the oldest of 7 kids. She moved to BC as a teenager, and lived in Chilliwack & Whitehorse, before settling in her favourite Vancouver neighbourhood, Marpole. She loved dogs, especially her beloved companion of the past 17 years, Mindy. Other passions included the Canucks, the SPCA, bingo, bowling, & eating out with family and friends. She was an avid gardener & fantastic cook. Kay had friends around the world, having opened her home to over 200 foreign students over the past 12 years, something she truly loved. She is sadly missed by her children Rob & Barb & their families, including her 6 grandchildren; along with her 6 siblings and their families. Very special thanks to the amazing compassionate ICU nurses & doctors at VGH. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA or Crohn's and Colitis Canada are appreciated.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of our dear neighbour Kay. We saw each other frequently in the lane with our dogs or just coming and going in our cars. She was always on the go.
We always enjoyed her special tin of Christmas baking. I would reciprocate with some fresh rainbow trout in the summer.
She was able to join us for a drink on a few Christmas Eve's with some of the other neighbours.
My husband Bill would help her put up her Christmas tree and she was able to convince him to put the lights on as well which he happily did.
She really loved the holidays.
We were lucky that they were part of our neighbourhood.
We will miss her and Mindy.
Our deepest sympathy,
Kathy and Bill

I still don't think it has sunk in for me that my Aunt Kay is gone, as I didn't get to see her very often living a few provinces away. Yet I can't help but think about what a rich part of my growing up and family life she was. Trips as a little girl to Vancouver were made so exciting and special by Aunt Kay who welcomed us into her home and shared such wonderful sights and tastes of her beloved city with us. And then I think of times she came to visit us and immersed herself in the things we were doing, whether it was the windup rodeo at my youth ranch camp or the pow wow near my
place of employment. I really admire Aunt Kay's love for life and diversity and the beautiful gift of hospitality she carried. She was truly a beautiful and thoughtful woman, rich in character. It is clear to see the beauty of her life in her children (and my cousins), Barb and Rob. I love you guys and continue to pray for God's comfort and strength for you in this time.

So happy I got to see my sister Kay before she passed away. I feel she knew that I was there. So happy that I got to share the last few days of her life with Barb, Rob and their families. There's so much I wish I could have talked to her about but will hold onto the memories.
Your sister Rose and husband Lloyd.

I was lucky to have known Kay through her volunteer work with the BC SPCA. I enjoyed our talks about her life, Mindy, kids (both hers and mine), and the Canucks. Kay was a kind, very dedicated person. Thinking of her family as they remember such a lovely person.

Our hearts and thoughts are with you. Everyone on our team looked forward to seeing Kay here at the SPCA on Thursdays. We always had a great chat about Mindi and the Canucks, and her smile was a real bright point in our week. We miss her dearly.

Though I never met you Rob and Barb, I heard a lot about you and your children from your mother, she was so proud of you all and loved you all dearly. I spent a lot of time with Kay at the BC SPCA and I always loved to hear about her kids and grandkids, her students and of course talking Vancouver Canucks. She was indeed a great cook and a fun woman. I will miss her. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember Kay during her visits with Mindy as an incredibly dedicated volunteer to the BC SPCA Humane Education department. A tragic loss for an amazing person. My thoughts are with her family.
