Lancelot Lam Obituary

Feb 22, 1946 - Aug 21, 2012

On a beautiful August 21, Dr. Lancelot Lam died peacefully with his family by his side. He is survived by his mother, Lam Wai Yung, son Mark (Miranda), grandsons Trevor and Aaron, brothers Horace (Betsy) and Charles and sisters Alice Chu (Francis) and Mora Tang (Sandys) and five nieces, Christina, Sarah, Ming Bo, Lydia and Ming Jee. Predeceased by his father, Lam Kam Wah in 2001. Lance was born February 22, 1946, the first of five children and spent his formative years in Hong Kong. He graduated from and became an active alumnus of St. Paul's Co-Educational College where he made many close, lifelong friends. In 1968, Lance move to Canada and attended the University of Guelph. Upon graduation from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1973, he moved to the Lower Mainland. Beloved by both his patients and clients, Lance was known as a kind and compassionate veterinarian. He owned and operated the Island Veterinary Hospital in Nanaimo from 1978 to 1995 and the Coquitlam Animal Hospital from 1995 until his retirement in 2011. During his all too brief retirement, Lance took the opportunity to reflect on his life and was enthusiastically embarking on a journey along a path he had just begun to carve out. The week prior to his passing had been a particularly joyful one spent with his mother and grandsons and Lance was excited about the future. We would like to thank doctors and staff of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for all their care and attention during his final days. A viewing will be held Wednesday, August 29 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at OceanView Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 30 at OceanView Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. Reception to follow the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, 102-1801 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC V9S 1H1, Canada in his memory. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].

In memory of Dr. Lam I am proud to say that he looked after all my animals for many years. He was a man of integrity, of compassion, a jewel in the community of vets. I am deeply saddened by his loss but when he is in heaven image the party he will have will all the animals he helped through their most trying times. It was my pleasure to know you, work with you on assisting my animals and finally finding a man of compassion that knew no bounds. The world has lost a great human being, the very best vet and a great friend. Thank you for always being there for me Lance. In loving memory. Denise Loyer
