On January 20, 2022, Charlie passed away peacefully at Hospice Niagara in St. Catharines with wife, Elaine and son, Shaun by his side. After 8 1/2 years of treatments for prostate and then bone cancer, Charlie fought the good fight to the end, never wanting to quit trying. Charlie was the loving husband of 36 years and best friend to Elaine. He was the proud father of Jessica Drury (Peterborough) and of Shaun Ferguson (St. Catharines). Stepfather of Jason Scott (BC) and Jeremy Scott (Wisconsin). Grandfather of Bracken Scott-Police and Noah Ollmann-Scott (BC); Emma Drury and Noah Drury (Peterborough). The youngest of 7 in his family, Charlie was baby brother to Don Ferguson (Port Perry) and Joan Demick-Morel (Parry Sound). Friend and brother-in-law of Gayle & Larry Brown (Peterborough) and Bonnie Nagel (Henrietta, NY). Charlie had many nieces & nephews and relatives in BC and Ontario. Our family pet, Dave the Cat will miss being the centre of Charlie's world. Dave will always have a place to sleep at the end of Charlie's bed. Charlie's career in the plumbing & heating industry began in 1985 when he was hired by Bardon Supplies Ltd. in outside sales. In 2000, Charlie and family moved to Niagara where he became Branch Manager in Welland, then to a new branch in St. Catharines. His career culminated there as Regional Manager, Niagara. Charlie was a well-respected, knowledgeable, quiet man who had an excellent rapport with staff and customers. He had an unparalleled work ethic. Charlie genuinely looked forward to going into work every day. Customers became his friends and employees became family, like his "work wife" Kelly. In March 2020, his continuing chemo treatments, and the start of COVID necessitated his retirement from Bardon. Charlie's hobbies and interests included photography, sketching & art, amateur radio (VE3WCF), camping, canoeing, travelling, anything involving electronics, and years ago, he was the "roadie" for Shaun's magic shows. Charlie was not defined by his illness and refused to acknowledge defeat. We are so proud of how he handled each appointment at the hospital, clinic treatments, or pills at home without complaint. Thanks to Dr. Levesque, Dr. Hallock & staff at Walker Family. Thanks to Wellspring Niagara for the Prostate Cancer Support group help. Our gratitude to Monica & Shelly at Hospice Niagara, Angel Nurses Kim & Jocelyne, and all the LHIN support from Laurie & PSW's connected with Charlie's home care. With the support of friends near & far, words cannot express our appreciation to Mary & Andy Millar, Lydia Dunkley, Cindy Moreton, and Lucas Reid. We also have awesome neighbours & continue to treasure your friendship. We are extremely grateful to staff & volunteers at Hospice Niagara in St. Catharines. They are gentle, caring people who have such compassion and share their hearts with each resident & family. Charlie requested that no funeral service be held. The family will have a private gathering when appropriate. Charlie's wishes were that his ashes be scattered in a nature setting during the summer. We ask that flowers not be sent, but instead, would appreciate a donation to your favourite charity or to Hospice Niagara.
