"I loved her more than life itself, my mother, my friend, my whole life. What I would not give for
one more day, to hold you close, to kiss your cheek, to see your smile, to hear you speak."
- Lisa O'Brien, November 20, 2021
A talented artist, Ethel initially modelled her work on the Group of Seven. Despite the early influences, she developed her own signature style of abstract works. She turned down a scholarship to study at the Ontario College of Art, instead finding her true calling in a life of service to others. She worked with troubled youth as a Special Education Assistant, and later volunteered with stroke and head injury patients suffering from aphasia. In 1997, she was diagnosed with arthritis, and began her long battle to fight the disease which eventually crippled her. In retirement, she studied at the National Institute for Genealogical Studies FIS University of Toronto in Canadian and American Genealogical Studies and continued to create inspirational pieces art. Today the volumes of artwork and poetry she left behind, stand as a lasting tribute to all that she was.
"Death slips silently through the night,
gathering those who have lost the fight
Tomorrow's light they will never see
Eternity has set them free"
- Ethel Keith, January 14, 1978
