Gerald YOUNG Obituary

Surrounded by his family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald on January 20th at the age of 66. Beloved husband to Theresa (Politi) for 44 years, loving father to Anthony (Jenna), Victoria (Tomas) and Andrew (Daniella). His seven grandchildren were his greatest joy, Iyla, Vera, Adriana, Julian, Viola, Petra and Penelope. He is survived by his brother Larry and sister-in-law Gigi. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends. Gerald is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Helen Young and his in-laws Antonio and Filomena Politi. Gerald's life was full and blessed. He treasured travelling with his wife, whether on two wheels or exploring destinations around the world. He took the role of a very active and involved father and papa. He was a proud member of the Welland County Motorcycle Club, Friday night hockey in Wainfleet and loved riding trials. He found enjoyment in woodworking, renovating and his latest hobby of refurbishing a vintage motorcycle. Above all, he cherished summer night BBQs by the pool with his family. Visitation will be held at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Parish Community of St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. Cremation to Follow. Private family interment to be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre. Online memories and condolences at www.jjpatterson.ca

To Theresa and her family,
I have known Gerald since early high school, when we became neighbors on Moore Rd. We did a lot together despite our 3 year age difference, which was a lot back then. We rode the bus to high school, and certainly had our dedicated seating at the back of the bus, where most of the fun was happening, or at least so we thought. Later we began to ride motorcycles, dune buggies and worked together during summers at Bronco Ind. making concrete products. We also spent a season on a tobacco farm in Branford to "make the big money", which of course we spent primarily on motorbikes. Our lives evolved, but our friendship never faded, even after I left Welland for University and a permanent move to Alberta in 1980. We always kept in touch and always got together whenever I visited Welland, which was quite often.

I was emotionally floored when Gerald called me to tell me his terrible news, earlier this year. Time seemed to go into fast forward as I witnessed from afar, my long time friend pass away.

Gerald was a fun and very considerate individual. We never had any friction in our friendship. After the best decision in his life in my view, marrying Theresa, they raised an amazing and loving family and they lived full and joyful life despite his unfortunate early departure.

I was vert fortunate to call him my friend for most of my life and I will never forget you Gerald.

Condolences to Geralds entire family. I used to call on Gerald at the store once a week. I looked forward to our conversations. I got the chance to golf with him at a few of the companies golf tournaments and it was always a great time. He was a very nice man, and someone you don´t forget.

I grew up next door to Gerry. He and my brothers raced around the countryside on motorcycles and dune-buggies as I desperately tried to keep up to them on my little pony. I will always remember his kind heart and the deep sound of his laughter. Condolences to your loving family.

Theresa - it was with huge shock and tremendous sadness that I learned about Gerald's illness. Although I didn't share the years of friendship that Marcel had with you and Gerald, I have always felt close to both of you and valued the times we got to spend together. Your bond with each other was palpable and I can imagine the huge loss you and the kids must be feeling. We are thinking of you all and hope you are able to find comfort in your shared memories of a great husband, friend and Dad.
