Daryl Emerson Obituary

Daryl passed away in High River Hospital following a year-long battle with cancer.
Daryl was born and raised in Calgary and graduated from Mount Royal College with a diploma in Business Administration. He then attended the University of Calgary, where he earned a degree in Political Science and Education; he later earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Portland. He had a successful career with CBE working in several schools as a teacher and counselor, and ended his career as a Vice Principal at Lord Beaverbrook High School.
In addition to his education career, Daryl and Dianne established a ranch in the Black Diamond area ,and over the next 3 decades Daryl and his family worked to build the ranch that gave him his purpose and his joy. Daryl was a leader with the Meadowbank 4H club when his kids were young. He enjoyed breeding and training quarter horses and the family did all of their cattle work using horses. He was very interested in cutting, competing in some local competitions. He also had an interest in antique cars and trucks and spent his later years restoring them. Daryl loved all aspects of the ranching life and his spirit rests there.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne; his son Scott (Page) and grandsons Jack and Casey; his daughter Erin (Clint) and grandchildren Layne and Logan; his mother, Margaret, his brother Eldon (Madeleine), his niece Shauna (Kerry) and their three children, and his sister-in-law, Marilyn Carter. Daryl was predeceased by his father, Clarence in 1996 and his sister-in-law Marlene in 2007.
A memorial service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel in High River at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29, with a reception to follow.
The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Foothills Hospital.

I feel badly that news of Daryl's passing has taken so long to reach me. Daryl and I started our careers together in the early 70's. I think of him as a kind, considerate person always striving for the high ground in whatever he did

I just heard of Daryl's passing and want to send my deepest condolences to Daryl's family. I worked with Daryl when he was an Assistant Principal at Jack James. I have very fond memories of how well he worked with students and staff. He was an intuitive, kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humour. His calm way of being was truly an asset in the work we did with students. I truly enjoyed my years working with him. Such a loss.

What I am feeling is hard to put into words. Daryl's friendly, calm, good-natured outlook was always reassuring. We often reminisced about farming. As a colleague, Daryl undertook various challenging roles. Daryl's dedication to upgrading adult education and successful educational grant submissions helped numerous rural areas, including High River, Airdrie and others. With sympathy,

A truly great man in so many ways! A big loss for all of us.

I was shocked to hear, just today, of Daryl's passing and I wish your family to accept my sincere condolences. My favourite memory of Daryl is when his truck was broken into in Drayton Valley when I had the pleasure of working with him and Erin. The look on his face that morning at breakfast was one of pure shock..."How could this have happened to me?" Good old Foxwood days. May happy memories surround you all. With my sympathy, Kathleen Primrose.
